Hydrogen steel decarbonization advantages

You can decarbonize steel without #hydrogen via either aqueous or molten oxide electrolysis.

These technologies have the advantage of being scalable.

Compared with hydrogen steel production via Hydrogen Direct Reduction of Iron (HDRI), iron electrolysis allows smaller furnaces with lower capital entry barriers while consuming 30% to 40% less energy.

The main advantage of hydrogen decarbonization of the steel industry via the Hydrogen Direct Reduction of Iron (HDRI) is not technological. It is economical.

Opting for electrolysis for steel production makes the steel cost extremely dependent on electricity price fluctuations.

With HDRI, you can store hydrogen produced at lower prices and store it for later use. As such, HDRI hydrogen-produced steel can achieve a lower and more stable price.
