Thank you. I would consider switching from to for reasons of and , and because Standard Notes and Proton software is . Proton being hosted in Switzerland, in Europe, helps too, although I don't know what that means for Standard Notes, whose servers are currently in the U.S.

However, I was hoping to learn about the cost of switching.

Which of Obsidian's features would I have to give up? I use Templater templates, Dataview Queries, Outliner and Tasks, to mention just a few popular plugins from Obsidian's vibrant ecosystem.

Markdown files in an Obsidian vault can be edited by other applications, which improves flexibility and reduces lock-in concerns. I read that Standard Notes is more rigid in this respect.

So my question is: What would I need to give up?

Installed the Chrome extension ‘MarkDownload - Markdown Web Clipper’.

The use case was that I wanted to easily capture in Obsidian stuff that I’d published online. Starting with some Mastodon posts.

The clipper downloads a web page as markdown, with the file extension ‘.md’.

Trying to figure out how to use hashtags productively. Especially when taking notes in Obsidian, I often don’t know whether to link a term to its own note, turn it into a hashtag, or both.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_(metadata) reads: “(...) Tags are generally chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, (...) may also be chosen from a controlled vocabulary. (...)”

I don't see much harm in not sending European users' personal data to the NSA, nor in #Facebook making a € 1.2 billion contribution to #PublicValues.

Would be nice if some of that cash flew into #fediverse development.

on the free plan one gets 300 minutes of real time transcription per month.

Otto can also otter can also transcribe audio that has been recorded previously I'm wondering if the 300 minutes count against such previously recorded audio

I'm also wondering if otter is the best solution the best transcription solution
