Until humanity has made it possible to fry a good egg using just an air fryer or an oven, there will never be a single piece of (good) fried egg on this green Earth that has been made by me.

context: all innocent eggs that have ever been fried by me on a pan have gone to hell, harder than the shell they were in :blobfoxangrylaugh:

irfan,

@anianimalsmoe oh no idt there's any technique hahahaha I'm just so bad at frying things...... esp when they're only meant to be fried at low heat/short time cos I somehow always do it wrong lol. Just a small, rounded, metal pan, some butter as the "fuel", and on a gas stove.

irfan,

this is giving me so much memories growing up playing KH as a child :(

the most memorable KH games for me has to be the first Kingdom Hearts on #PS2, and especially Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on the #NDS. The gloomy yet calming vibes in those games really hit right with me.

I'm proud of myself for not flexing my blood relation to Raden Adjeng Kartini this year..... wait (let me be, it's all i have 😤)

irfan,

@rakyat she is! it's cool too that she was part of our syllabus (via textbook), tho I don't remember which subject it was - most prolly Sejarah. There's a movie of her too recently if I remember correctly, but I've not been able to watch it just yet.

irfan,

thinking abt it, all the women that I know of from my mom's side of the family are superwomen, the lot. My mom, my aunt, my grandaunts, they're all genuinely a different breed lol.

i remember being pretty upset when i was a kid that i couldn't carry on the Raden name since it isn't my dad with the name but my mom, (but i'd be lying if i say i'm not partially glad now that i've grown up that my name isn't that striking and long hehe).

irfan,

I'm getting a history lesson from my mom abt Kartini and the rest bcos I just seem to never remember and always ask the same qs every year haha

irfan,

TIL there's a family register called "Perkumpulan Mangkunegaran Surakarta" dating back to my ancestors' time with details of all members of my family - including my own name which is pretty cool.

Referring to that, my Eyang Kakung (grandpa)'s father is 10 years younger than Kartini and are ~cousins. So Raden Adjeng Kartini's my Eyang Kung's (second) aunt, my mom's grand aunt, and my great grand aunt. She died when she was ~25 in 1904, while my Eyang Kung was born in 1931 so they've never been in the same era.

I really should care more about family history.

My YouTube has been trained to Raya videos oh no

irfan,

@geraineon mine have been showing me flight safety vids bcos of the MAS one the other day 😭

irfan,

@geraineon I have only watched 1 tho, and it’s a SIA one that was from ~5-6 yrs ago that somehow resurfaced and that was kinda meh surprisingly. It was cool that they did it in a way that promotes different tourist spots but the flow/tempo was a bit too slow and the narration was a bit off.

There’s an Indian Airlines one that was recommended, and that was recent and had many mil views but I’ve not watched it yet.

It's because of all the Raya songs I've been listening to, I wake up with Raya songs in my head

irfan,

@geraineon I normally don't but I must've came cross just enough online cos I too have one stuck in my head atm

irfan,

@geraineon @cendawanita betul. it's the ?? ketipak ketipung sayang ?? something, for me haha.

More reasons to leave Google's services I guess. At least paying ones 🤔

irfan,

@gombang likewise. It’s prolly YouTube and Maps for me. Maybe even Drive, a little bit. This is ofc not even counting if you need to rely on the Play Store which has all the apps u need incl non-Google ones.

, the legit retro emulator on has finally made it to the (for free, and most importantly - legitimately) 🎉

Also , you could connect to a remote share right from the native Files app on your . Did just that and copied over some BIOS files and ROMs, now I'm off to the races.

So weird, but there's a Mamak I often frequent to on Fridays for lunch, and I'd get cramps all over my arms and legs in the evening that I often attributed to either stress/anxiety cramps or that I didn't eat enough.

but today I went to said Mamak for a late lunch, and I think I ate enough (2 Roti Canai, 1 Teh O Kosong Ais), and I'm definitely not stressed atm, and yet I'm now getting the same cramps. These cramps must somehow come from said Mamak, either from the food (likeliest, maybe) or the drink (unlikely, maybe)... Wtf could it be cos these cramps are pretty significant?

Attributing it to not eating enough is pretty unlikely tho since I never get them while fasting - granted, I do have a proper sahur (early 5am breakfast) when I fast, while on normal non-fasting days I don't have such breakfast and only have lunch and dinner. What (presumably) ingredient could cause insane cramps all over your arms and legs?

I'll always prefer English over Malay just bcos of its simplicity.

When referring to your married partner's family members, in English you literally just add In Law at the end and you're off to the races. In Malay, I for the life of me can never quite math what should be Menantu, Mertua, Besan, or whatever else is there.

When referring to someone by name/title, in English, literally just call their name no matter their age and you will not be crucified for being disrespectful. You could just prefix Mr or Ms if you're feeling a little fancy, or Mrs for a married woman with their husband's surname if you're feeling fancier - but that isn't really needed and doesn't even apply 100% of the time here. In Malay, I also can never figure out if I should use Encik, Cik, Tuan, Puan, or whatever else depending on their age or status or whatever other idiotic things I somehow have to consider just to address someone (while being respectful).

When talking directly to someone, in English just use I and You. That's it, case closed. In Malay, I can NEVER decide if I should use Aku and Kau, Saya and Awak, or Kamu (idek what this pairs with). With boys, I normally resort to Aku/Kau cos I feel like using anything else feels a lil icky. With girls, I feel like the second pairing would be more suitable but I just could not so I go with the same Aku/Kau pairing but with a softer tone (lmao) or cheat and use English whenever I've to address them directly. With elderlies (who know my name), I just refer to myself with my name lol.

I feel like that last bit is the one I've trouble the most. I remember being called out in my first ever relationship in the long past bcos they realised I was never consistent in which pair I use like I'd use Saya with Kau in one message thread, then Aku and Awak in the next :neofox_boop_woozy:

I hope in my next job I'll never have to compose an email or worse, speak in Malay ever again bcos that was honestly quite traumatising.

irfan,

For context on my language use: In kindergarten (age 5 and 6) I mostly spoke English bcos almost all of my friends were Chinese. In Standard 1 and 2 (age 7 and 8), I spoke a mix of both bcos my closest friends at the time were Malays. In Standard 3, I started shifting more towards English esp at home bcos my little sister grew up with Astro (satellite TV) and so she only understood English thanks to Disney and stuff lol. In Standard 4-6 (age 10-12), I primarily spoke English bcos my classmates were pretty much all Chinese with very few Indians and fewer Malays (1 or 2 others, max).

Form 1-5 (age 13-17), I got into a boarding school which is pretty much Malay only so that was... traumatising. In Form 1, I pretty much only talked to people that primarily spoke English which isn't many and even though I thought there's nothing wrong with my Malay, people kept pointing out how weird it is. Form 2 onwards, I got the hang of it (according to them - I honestly didn't notice a difference) and so I developed quite a rempit version of Malay since I was only speaking informally among my own peers - so THIS version of Malay I've been stuck with for the rest of my life which makes it harder to adjust when I need to speak more formally/respectfully (in Malay). During this time, my closest friends were still my non-Malay friends back home, so it was a pretty weird time for me to juggle between speaking these 2 lingos.

In college, I pretty much only spoke in English ~until now, 'cept in my last job I did have to speak or write in Malay with some clients from time to time - and fortunately Google Translate was getting real good to help me with that. In my relationship now, we both speak a mix of English and Malay, but since she's my childhood friend from primary school - our Malay's pretty much just as weird so we're in sync (just hers, without the rempitness I picked up in high school) so that's fine. I've always wanted to improve my Malay, esp for work, by following Malay-only tech sites but that's proven to be a bust bcos I always end up googling for an English version of the article instead.

irfan,

@rakyat oh yes, this is almost always brought up by my friends and how even when finding life partners sometimes you'd be tested or would need to test them if they could figure this out 😭

but nah, the Malay one is not as tough as this lol - At least not in use, in big Malay families, got la nicknames according to their order like eldest~youngest; Long, Ngah, Lang, etc. but not all families use them, not all families are that big for it to be impossible to remember (esp my generation), and also people don't really expect you to strictly remember/follow them.

My dad's family for instance just use Uncle/Aunty prefix with their names, my mom's also the same and she also only has 1 sibling. My partner's parents' families tho are huge and do use them - I've once made my partner draw a family tree and the nicknames for each of them, but I've long given up and decided to use my partner as my app instead 😂

irfan,

@rakyat I've always thought of Sg Buloh as a "Malay area" but I guess it's a bit of both (SGB is huge after all) - my small neighbourhood for example has a Chinese majority but just outside of it is a Kampung Melayu, and very nearby there's also a "Kampung Cina" (not actually called that tho).

I grew up in Kepong, and right before SPM I actually caused a tantrum to get out of my boarding school and get into my local SMK which was right next to my primary school. Besides my childhood friends (from SK), my new friends at the time which were a majority in my class were actually from an SJKC and most of them were from Sg Buloh.

and yes, I always end up sending Malay-related questions to my partner, and she'd do the same with me, and we'd always feed each other the wrong answers so we then resort to our common friends instead that were more Malay-fluent haha.

irfan,

@rakyat ya that last bit sounds a lot like my partner's parents' families haha (~8-9 sibs I think, each side). My mom's side she only has 1 sibling and (all) my grandparents are long gone - but if I were tasked to remember any names from that side of the family (besides my mom's and aunty's), it'd be impossible. They all have long Sanskrit names, with like ~7 words and each word having ~2-5 syllables haha.

Fun story: My sister and I joined Silat when we were little. One of the onboarding "ritual" involved saying out loud your name, followed by anak and your mother's full name. My little sister went through that first before it was my turn, and after I was done with mine, the dude we had to do this with asked me if I had a sister and he mentioned how my sister (which was age ~7 at the time) couldn't recite/recall my mom's full name - only about quarter/half of it 😂

I think the news about essentially "reinventing" cable channels again into their streaming service, is pretty hilarious, though I'm not exactly surprised by that since I too honestly have been wanting such a feature on or for really long time.

The idea is, you could still watch things on demand, unlike cable channels of old, but you could also just tune in to a channel and be "served" different things to watch by episode, or by movie, based on what is available. That'd be perfect when you just want to leave the TV on and have it play random stuffs all day.

irfan,

@chaphasilor wow... this might be it tho I have to look more into it. Looks super cool tho if it does what it says. I'll have to figure out how it works and experiment w it, thanks so much for highlighting this!
