@techm ah yes, I had friends who designed "websites" in Dreamweaver by simply slicing and dicing a big image they made. I'm glad those days are over. 😆

Trying to find and follow users on Threads has so far been impossible. I can't even find my own Threads account, and I have no idea how to bring up my Threads profile from my fedi account. Anyone using Mastodon+GlitchSoc have any tips for 'seeing' Threads users. (Yes, the people I'm trying to link with have the fediverse sharing option enabled -- one is my own test account.)

@GossiTheDog yea, people should not consider country TLDs as 'safe' to use. They are under the jurisdiction of their respective countries, so if they're not friendly to LGBT+ folk, it comes as no surprise that they'd eventually shutdown a domain like queer.af. They should have assumed this would happen eventually.

At a I visited a lot in the 80s & 90s and maybe only two or three times since. I like what they've done with the place. Little hint of Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in London, minus about four hundred years of history.

I'm going to do something crazy and give people (even OPS) the benefit of the doubt. From that lens, I think it's the safety in numbers game. The convoy was "too big" to control, and OPS feared that arrests would escalate the situation but nobody is walking out in solidarity with PSAC, and so the police can arrest with impunity. We need to be more like France and get behind our unions. (Said the guy behind his keyboard not putting words into action, I know, I know.)

If even the guy in charge of teaching planners thinks you can't live "a full and rewarding life" without a car, is it any surprise Canadian cities are planned so poorly?

Same. I take my car out once a week, to drive my XO to hockey, and maybe again if we need to get groceries (every 2 weeks generally).
I do need it to visit friends, but that's because our transit system is so uber shitty. Speaking of Uber, I use it to go to Lansdowne for OHL/PWHL games, again because the transit is cruddy, but the area is not one where I would want to drive.
Still not spending anywhere near $1200 a month. Gas+insurance, maybe $200.

    I brought donated wireless keyboards and a mouse to #Staples for ewaste. Sad. Employees loose the little wireless #usb thingies that communicate with keyboards. Without these, the keyboards don’t connect. I tried to figure out a solution but it doesn’t exist. Every keyboard (obviously) has its own key. So perfectly fine keyboards went to waste. Also, figuring out which waste goes where is a chore in #ottawa. Staples doesn’t take all ewaste. Cartridges yes, thermostats no #recyclingheadaches

    @Hansonthebike You're talking logitech keyboards with their proprietary usb adapter? They can be re-paired with another usb adapter. I bought a logitech keyboard and mouse separately and paired them to the same adapter so I wouldn't have to use 2 separate adapters just to connect 2 devices. It's easy to do.

    One caveat about using Bluetooth keyboards, you'll have difficulty accessing the system BIOS since Bluetooth is only available after the OS boots.

    I'll admit I'm one of those people who Queen's Gambit lit or relit an interest in chess. Before that, I had known the piece movement, but never really got into it. After a brief spark of interest I started playing a friend online who had zero knowledge, and after a year, is consistently crushing me. I don't even have the confidence to play strangers anonymously yet. Anyway, this isn't about me, it's about chess, just thought I'd provide a little background first. 1/2

    @ottaross I seem to recall an article from somewhere a while back where a Dell laptop someone had ordered was rerouted to some facility in Texas before it was eventually delivered to the purchaser. At the time the accusation was that it was being intercepted and equipped with surveillance equipment.
