I've never heard the term Horizontal Slice before, but it's exactly how I make games. Now that I can give it a catchy buzzword, maybe inventors/publishers will embrace it.

#Godot noob error. I used Trimesh Collision Siblings for everything that needed a collision... Don't do that on complex meshes, even low poly ones. It will kill your frame rate.

Take the time and give those meshes simple collision shapes instead.

Being a game industry reject, I had no idea about these non-compete clauses. Do they do the same in the UK?

Hopefully, this will mean more highly skilled contributers to FOSS. Maybe, some new indie studios will be formed that might hire outsiders. I doubt it but, maybe.

Finding Dialogic while building the game's UI has been a real treat. It's creator Emi has a brilliant YouTube channel, including his short documentary.

If you haven't seen it I highly recommend as it puts a few faces to the names behind the engine, and shows what the open source community can look like.

I imagine things have changed a lot however, in the past year since this was made.

Am I the only one who likes making Main Menus in a game? Like I don't feel like it's a real game without it. It's one of the first things I do in a new project.

@Tearcell I love making UIs. However, I made a main menu first one time and the game never got finished. Now I am superstitious about it.

Something I have learnt here this year is, that knowing the limitations of your game engine before desiging your gameplay is a much more painless approach compared to shoehorning in your features. Take your basic concept, make a test level, experiment until you have all the core gameplay elements you need. Don't be afraid to compromise. Then build your levels and UI. This applies especially with open source engines like Godot as you can't expect them to have everything you need out the box.

Time for me to go silent on here for a while 💢 I figure I should spend more time making the demo and trailer for my game, and less time trying to drum up support on social media.

I've decided to scrap the search for a frame work and just start from scratch with Godot and C#.

So hopefully in a few months I will have something polished to show for myself.

Looking forward to checking out Adventure X next month.

So glad I decided to code my 'Foes' card game as a C# console application before diving into Unity. After all the engine drama. I can now carry on without worrying and apply the code (in one form or another) to what ever engine I decide to use.

#107AdvChal Burning the midnight oil cutting up sprites for spline animations. The challenge of this theme of Going Undercover is the additional assets needed to disguise your character.

I have gone way too far as my character has three costumes altogether. Which means lost of cutting and pasting and spline animating. It's really relaxing work mind.
