@tarrkid @siracusa @MichaelWhelan I’ve read this now twice in this thread in similar form: “It’s a large, square book, perfect for a coffee table.” Assuming this is something Americans do, as I’ve never heard about this here in Europe. Can someone explain this concept to me in simple words? 😊

@siracusa fascinating! Learning something new here. So a coffee table is basically your “main” couch table, not some side table in the reading corner / cocktail corner of your giant American mansions? Is the coffee table book meant to be a “permanent installation” on the table or do you just place it there when you expect visitors, to engage in a not-so-random conversation about space or whatever topic?

@siracusa Yeah, we would call it couch table. I’m surprised by the amount of books in this picture, but not sure how representative it is. Seems counterproductive to the described use case of encouraging visitors to pick up the book, if you stack them and put decorative items on top. If it was my main/only couch, I would probably be annoyed by the lack of real estate for a remote, glasses and maybe some cookies.

@siracusa Glad you say it’s staged. It reminded me a bit of American hotel rooms, whenever I visited the US. The bed would be full of multiple rows of these decorative pillows, that don’t seem to fulfill any obvious purpose. You would have to toss them all on the ground to actually use the bed. Same seems to be true if you want to have some coffee with guests at your coffee table.

@_Davidsmith Awesome, I’ll give it a try today! I moved to Austria, in the middle of the Alps. Hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking almost daily. I’ve been using WorkOutDoors since I got the Watch Ultra, so I can use topographic maps on the watch. The rest of the UI is horrendous but the map view does its job well and the functionality and customization is extremely powerful.

@_Davidsmith One thing I noticed (that should also be relevant to others) is that you can’t zoom out in offline map download. A typical use case is to download a map (eg at home) before driving to the trailhead, where you might not have network. It’s difficult to scroll to the designated location to select the download area. If the area is 30km or more away, it gets very annoying.

@_Davidsmith Great, a search option would indeed be helpful. Would be awesome if you could also find a way to zoom in and out in the map download screen. I personally don’t always know the names of rural outdoor areas (unless there’s a peak or hut nearby).

@gruber I find the lack of clapping and cheering extremely positive. You never knew how much of
it was just their own employees (especially retail) and I’d rather try to make up my own mind about the information provided and the way of presenting it.

And I also strongly believe that journalists shouldn’t clap or cheer at these kinds of events anyway. But that’s on another page.

@schlingel BMW macht das etwas geschickter. Updates und andere Notifications bekommst du serviert, wenn du parkst und das Auto ausschaltest.

Aber dass dein Auto NEUE AGBS hat, ist etwas, das man sich auf der Zunge zergehen lassen muss. Wer auch immer diese Simulation, in der wir leben, programmiert hat, versteht Ironie.

@paul I have the “productivity” version of that with Thunderbolt and no RGB. It’s perfect for the M1 Mac, especially since it’s also running at a high frame.
