almost wrote in my journal today that it was "surprisingly easy" to turn a nix flake into a docker image ready to run on k8s, but in fact I wasn't surprised, it was exactly as easy as I thought it was going to be.

which is a very nice property for a technology to have!

I recommend to everyone that they contribute at least with data (if not able with donations as well) to @openstreetmap and/or @organicmaps

It is an absolute rush of euphoria and joy to see the map changing through your efforts! The almost "treasure-hunt" like experience of trying to find as much info about the place you are adding as possible is my favourite part though. Feels like active work!

Anyone knows if it is possible to modify /etc/hosts temporarily on NixOS ? I mean similarly with how nix shell or nix run could be used to briefly have programs installed, without needing to rebuild the system and change the configuration.

So torn with #Fairphone. Really like all that is stands for... which is why I really hate what seems to me like gaslight reasoning for dropping it and then selling bluetooth headphones.

I am also not very confident in overall device security, compared to the usual options (Samsung, Google, Apple).

@noodlejetski have you had the need to replace any parts so far? Saw some concerning things on that side, such as parts being out of stock with no resupply date, leading to the need to send your device in (which kinda defeats the whole repair it yourself idea)

This week has been pretty busy at work. Hopefully it has resulted in absolutely awesome results!

✨ Cold start up time for Element X Android has significantly improved from 3-4sec to 100-150ms for accounts with 1000, 2000 or even 4000 rooms (≈30x speed up). That’s awesome! ✨

I’ll explain tomorrow how we did that. Async Rust and immutable data types simply rock.
