Did anyone of you already receive #peerreview that was obviously created by #LLM? I can see how #predatorypublishers speed up their publication cycles, get rid of costly human interactions and deliver some seemingly plausible text to authors by just throwing manuscripts at a LLM and then let it generate reviews.

I tried it now with another device. All from Germany, for all of them is the site down and it says it is down on https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com, too. I tried it with a VPN (via netherlands) and it was down, too. Do you by chance know anyone at Scielo who we could ask what's going on there?

Ich verschenke eine Ausgabe meiner #Dissertation an jemand, der/die auf diesen Post reagiert. In der Diss geht es darum, wie durch Zulassungsverfahren von Schulgeschichtsbüchern der Nachkriegsjahre die Darstellung des #Nationalsozialismus beeinflusst wurde. Ich habe die institutionellen Machtverhältnisse und hegemonialen Denkstile herausgearbeitet und bin bei wesentlichen Akteuren auf ihre NS-Vergangenheit eingegangen.

Ob Feature oder Manko: hier geht gar nichts viral. Das macht das Fediverse für manche zu einem kuscheligen Plätzchen. Wer aber der Welt den Puls fühlen möchte, wird hier leider erfolglos bleiben. Phänomene wie #arabspring oder #IchbinHanna wären hier einfach nicht passiert.

Und das hat mit Likes-Sammeln und über andere erheben gar nichts zu tun. Mastodon ist einfach schlecht geeignet für Discovery.

Nicht nur eine Plattform klingt okay, ist für mich persönlich aber unbefriedigend. Die hinter dezentralen sozialen Netzwerken soziotechnischen Systeme dringend gestärkt werden, damit sie unterschiedlichen Bedürfnissen gerecht werden. Dazu gehören:

  1. Sicherer Ort für prekäre Communities
  2. Globaler Markt der Meinungen und auch der inhaltliche Konfrontation
  3. Gesellschaftlicher Pulsmesser
  4. Meinetwegen auch Catwalk

Ich bin z.B. wegen 2 und 3 hier.

Discovery wird im Bibliothekswesen verwendet für Systeme und Mechanismen, die die gezielte Suche aber auch die mehr oder weniger zufällige oder zufällig erscheinende Entdeckung von Inhalten ermöglicht. Ich erfahre hier selten bis nie von Naturkatastrophen, politischen Ereignissen oder gesellschaftlichen Debatten und kann ihnen auch nicht folgen. Gilt auch für Diskussion zu Spezialthemen wie einer wissenschaftlichen Entdeckung oder einem lokalen Ereignis.

I am currently preparing for my first post-lockdown on-site conferences (besides one in my hometown).

The costs, the effort (family organisation, hotel search, logistics...), the travelling: I find it hard to justify. The more events that are held virtually, the better, cheaper, more CO2-efficient and, above all, more inclusive.
