givesomefucks,

That’s not middle class…

I don’t know if it has its own name, but it’s like the Overton window in politics.

Average people assume that they’re average and middle class means average, so they’re “middle class” despite having three figures in saving, no home equity, and a retirement account that will never be enough to retire.

Prior generations at least built up home equity over a lifetime.

givesomefucks,

Luckily the ACLU is already taking up the fight…

Buts it’s disgusting watching so many people defend it because he has a D by his name, thats what republicans did, and it didn’t take long to get to trump.

Throwing all your standards away is never a good thing.

givesomefucks,

But the thing is…

Everyone voting for Biden, would vote for anyone with a D by their name. Even if they had zero idea what that name was.

So why not run a popular candidate, who won’t do all this horrible shit, and win even easier?

Like, everyone just accepts that Biden is the only option besides trump.

And he’s not even a good option. He barely won last time when he didn’t have all the baggage.

givesomefucks,

Fascists always say they were treated unfairly…

The problem with that is, moderates then treat them with kids gloves, thinking that will stop them from saying it.

It never does.

To deal with fascists you throw the book at them, max legal punishment for every crime.

Because even if you just give them a slap on the wrist, their ideology requires them to say they were treated unfairly and are being persecuted.

It’s like how they’ll call the most conservative Dem in office a communist. So there’s no point in running a conservative Dem, they’ll fight them as hard as the most progressive.

There’s no rational reason to compromise before the fight starts.

givesomefucks,

You’re surprised at hypocrisy from politicians?

Biden unironically said “no one is approved the law” just a few weeks after saying Israel doesn’t have to stop their genocide because of international law, and the real problem was the ICC warrants.

Why do you expect more from trump than Biden?

We can’t even expect more from Biden than trump these days…

That’s the natural result of using “not worse than trump” as the standard.

givesomefucks,

Seriously?

www.cnn.com/2024/05/31/politics/…/index.html

It was all over Lemmy and the media in general less than a week ago…

You could have typed it into any search engine and got a bunch of results in the time it took you to type that comment, and you wouldn’t have needed to wait 10 minutes for me to do that for you…

givesomefucks,

President Joe Biden on Friday said that Donald Trump’s conviction in the hush money trial reaffirmed “the American principle that no one is above the law.”

That is not a factual statement though…

Lots of Americans are above our legal system.

I can’t believe an American thinks differently in 2024 just because Biden said it.

That’s incredibly concerning if you legitimately believe that’s true.

This was the exception, not the rule, literally the first time ever an expresident was found guilty of some of their crimes they committed while president.

givesomefucks,

People always want to say if you don’t like Biden, it makes you a single issue voter…

But he just keeps racking up so many ways he doesn’t represent the will of Dem voters.

We barely won 2020, we won’t win 2024 with a candidate who does shit like this.

givesomefucks,

It’s cheaper to prevent than treat…

But in an ultra capitalist healthcare system, cheap is bad.

There’s more profit in no preventive treatment so you can bankrupt people later.

The system is working exactly as intended, they’re making as much money as they can.

Which is why even with Dems controlling the White House, Senate, and House for two years…

None of them even talked about healthcare.

Neither party wants to change it, because they get donations for not changing it.

givesomefucks,

“Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country,” Trump said then. “I mean that very seriously. Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division. … I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.”

At the end of the day trump and Hillary still get along better than either would with their average voter.

If 1/6 hadn’t have happened, I fully believe trump wouldnt have any pending court cases.

Both parties forgive obvious crimes from prior administrations.

And no matter how much you hate trump, that doesnt make Hillary magically innocent.

She willingly and knowingly broke the law. And “the last guy did it too” isn’t the level of excuse we accept from teenagers.

The sheer fact that she was allowed to use a self hosted email server instead of a secure .mail.mil address means a whole bunch of people should have faced charges

I’m fully aware republicans do worse stuff, that doesn’t mean Dems can do anything they fucking want. That’s like a teen saying their older brother gets to smoke crack so they should at least be able to get blackout drunk every night

Yeah, it’s better, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok.

If a Republican breaks the law, charge them.

But we should be charging Dems, Independents, Green party, literally all of them accountable when they break the law. Or else we’re going down the same road republicans already did, and they got a hell of a headstart

givesomefucks,

It’s called

Having standards

Not doing that, is how republicans got trump…

Some people know it as:

Trying to stop letting Republicans win elections

But that involves a couple steps of critical thinking and long term planning

givesomefucks,

She’s also acting like it was some kind of spy video…

Wasn’t it just like, normal security cameras that are always running?

givesomefucks,

I mean, he literally should be…

That’s not hyperbolic, he legally should be arrested and held the second he sets foot in any halfway law abiding country

givesomefucks,

It’s not just the interest in this case.

Everytime you do it, it opens a new line of credit.

There are people who use this shit everywhere it’s offered, but opening a bunch of small lines of credit, hurts your score more even when you pay them off on time.

The positive for paying it doesn’t get you back up to the negative of opening the new line. So the longer this goes on, the lower your credit score. If you’re needing to use it routinely for groceries you’re going to eventually need credit for a big thing.

Which is often the first people hear that they’ve destroyed their credit.

Like, there’s “smart” ways to use credit, but people think because it’s paid off in full on time, they’re helping it or at least breaking even.

That logic is for an existing line of credit you keep charging against and paying, not opening 20+ lines a year

givesomefucks,

it’s incredible how dangerous he is for the democratic institutions of the free world.

Bibi is a giant piece of shit. And trump is a giant piece of shit.

But if they both magically disappeared someone else would take their spot and fill their role before you could blink.

It’s the money behind them that are the real problem, you think Bibi is writing the checks himself to both American parties?

It happened long before him, and unless we start having higher standards than “republicans do it to, so we can’t be mad Dems do it” then the next asshole from over there is going to just keep paying our next batch of assholes and nothing will change but the names on the checks

givesomefucks,

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) sent Netanyahu a formal invitation that was also signed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

If you’re surprised that Biden and both parties leaders are on the same page about this, it’s because they’re all on this same page:

www.opensecrets.org/industries/summary?cycle=All&…

Well. Jeffries isn’t because he’s new, but he’s got his own things going on

www.opensecrets.org/…/summary?cid=N00033640

givesomefucks,

It’s always been that cheap.

Like, John Oliver offering Thomas the “motor coach” if he stepped down from the SC is actually a pretty huge offer, if it wasn’t a lifetime appointment it probably would have worked.

Part of the reason was campaign donations being capped lowered the max asking price.

Then PACS raised it, and now the DNC and Biden have updated Hillary’s program that managed to bankrupt the DNC and most state parties so an individual can give a million each.

Which doesn’t exactly solve the problem in anyways, just means that the politicians get bigger checks for the same corrupt bullshit.

It’s why the only people seriously trying to get money out of politics is progressives. They have nothing to lose by it, their donations come from individuals and is already averaging well below the 3k a person is legally able to give a year. They just have a shit ton more donors (actual voters) than a bunch of giant corporations and bundlers.

givesomefucks, (edited )

The executive action is likely to allow US officials to shut off asylum requests once a daily threshold is met, allowing border officials to limit the amount of migrant arrivals, according to media.

I know what’ll curb illegal border crossings when there’s illegal border crossings due to our massive backlog…

We’ll just let less people thru legally!

/s

Where’s are the people saying Biden can’t do anything we want via executive order because he’s not a dictator?

For some reason, that only seems to be an issue when it’s something we want…

givesomefucks,

The reason people cross illegally is we don’t let refugees in legally.

The mass of innocent people, provides cover for the less than innocent. And they turn people into mules when they do cross, after charging them for it.

That’s not even getting into the rampant organ harvesting that’s happening to the people waiting to cross.

And like you said, Dems haven’t been doing the right thing for decades now.

How are we better than Republicans if we let this horrible shit happen just because the other team is worse?

Why not just run someone with some fucking empathy?

givesomefucks, (edited )

Only if you ignore history and the fact the moderate wing of the Dem party is just very loud, very small, and very wealthy.

They’ve got money behind them for the same reason they don’t have voters behind them.

And they still have to cheat to win the primary, and voting for them because they’re not Republicans doesn’t fix anything.

The people paying both parties have already won by then.

Republicans support horrible shit because they think Dems are worse, Dems support horrible shit because they think (correctly) that they’ll be even worse…

We still end up with horrible shit. And that’s why on a busy election year, were lucky to crack 75% turnout most years 66%.

We’re leaving an insane amount of votes on the table, because the people running the DNC care more about money than votes. Then try to use the money to get votes.

The money is just a middle step we only need when we have an unpopular candidate. We can just fucking skip it, along with all the horrible shit Dem voters don’t even want.

But it’ll never change as long as at the end of the day we hold our noses, because why would they change when it keeps working?

Protests don’t work, because Biden and his admin refuse to listen to anyone under 60, despite most of them being hardcore trump supporters who would never vote D.

He’s running off the Dem base in the senile hopes republicans will vote D if Biden does some of the horrible shit trump did. Or even worse, he legitimately thinks these are good moves or what his voters want. There’s no good option for why he keeps doing this shit.

They’re never gonna vote D just because Biden acts more conservative though. Because trump is always going to take it further. Following him makes no logical sense except that’s where the donations are

The California McDonald's rumor is coming from a digital ghost - The writer boosting McDonald's misinformation probably doesn't exist. (www.sfgate.com)

You probably haven’t heard the name Tony Bonnani, but he’s one of the most prolific writers on the internet. He publishes several articles a day, often churning out pieces within minutes of each other. Compared to most journalists, Tony Bonnani writes at a superhuman pace....

givesomefucks,

I did a HS stint at a McDonald’s back in the day.

We had a new employee one day named Blaze Lawless and for a bunch of highschoolers it was the coolest shit ever. We couldn’t believe it was a real name.

After the first night he worked, he came back after close, broke into the storage shed, and stole all the lawn care stuff and other shit that was in there.

Turned out, Blaze Lawless is too cool of a name to be real. The cops could tell it was a fake driver’s license just from the copy the manager made.

So apparently while Donald trump might not get hired, John Barron could probably easy pick up some shifts.

But you know he’s trying to walk out with a case of fish fillets 10 minutes into his shift.

givesomefucks, (edited )

But also. At this point, the literal only chance we have against Trump getting back into the White House is to vote Biden

The convention hasn’t even happened yet…

Won’t for months…

So even if you say it’s impossible for anything to make Biden to listen to voters, it’s not too late to run a candidate that voters actually want to vote for.

This post wasn’t about Biden’s support of genocide, it was about the democrats finally growing some fucking balls and speaking truth about how insane it is that half the country doesn’t believe Trump has ever done anything wrong.

Stop acting like trump matters. Trump is the same criminal asshole he’s always been. This the third goddamn election where the dem.is running on “trump is a criminal”.

But Biden breaking US and International law to provide munitions to a genocide and the fact that he’s went around the US government to do so already really takes the wind out of “only an idiot would vote for a criminal”.

In this election, both candidates have committed very serious crimes, and “do t vote for a criminal” translates to “dont vote”.

Because both options are criminals.

Republican voters have no issue ignoring that they’re candidate is a criminal, Biden doesn’t have that “luxury”.

And I really don’t want to watch a repeat of 2016.

Like you remember how close 2020 was without all this baggage right?

If you don’t want trump as president, then you don’t want Biden as the Dem candidate.

Don’t become a single issue voter.

I wish people stopped acting like the biggest issue is the only one.

I’m not typing a fucking essay about all the reasons Biden is a bad candidate for every comment. This isn’t the only reason voters don’t want Biden.

It’s just the example of him clearly and unapoligicatly breaking US and International law, and just trying to gaslight voters by having government agencies release obvious lies in official reports.

This is a big issue, but it’s no one’s “single issue” with Biden

givesomefucks, (edited )

Yes. I agree with you. But one criminal is supporting ONE genocide, and the other criminal is supporting MULTIPLE genocides.

Vote for Biden! He’ll use your tax dollars to commit less genocides, but we still won’t use any for healthcare or education!

Be happy you have one bad option and only one fascist option!

Now everyone close your eyes while we sic violent police (who are fascists) on peaceful college protestors!

But you threw so many insults in there, were done know.

Hope you sleep well while trying to keep a genocidal maniac in office.

I sure as shit couldn’t, so I stopped holding my nose.

givesomefucks,

If it’s Biden or trump, someone else.

I’ve voted Dem for president for literally 20 years.

The only time I’ve wanted that person to actually be president was 2008, by 2012 Obama’s drone strikes and other bullshit him made him just another “lesser evil”.

You can try and convince the millions and millions people like me and hope it’s enough.

Or you could try and pressure either the DNC to run a candidate with a realistic shot to beat Trump, or to pressure Biden to at least say the right things for the next few months.

But if nothing changes, Biden isn’t going to be able to pull out the incredibly close win he did in 2020.

And considering my states primary ballot literally only had Joe Biden as an option, don’t even try to tell me to the vote in primaries if I don’t like Biden.
