Also there's war, court intrigue, etc.

Characters will die. And because this is a low bar for cmedia: there are great women characters. Also a side f/f pair and another side m/m pair

And grey vs. gray morality

(Also you might find yourself rooting for everyone, knowing that one side is doomed because of the narrative, so it's not a Happy Read)

Idk how easy it will to be to read, but if you like Nirvana in Fire type of stories, you'll probably like this

It's romance lite (though there are moments), the couple spend a lot of time apart doing their own thing, and the story really, really doesn't foreground the romance.

There are many, many characters, and then there are factions, and they all have their own motivations

Conversely, if you do not enjoy NiF, JoL type court intrigue/have a hard time following, you will probably not have a good time, haha

(I am reading reddit threads about QJJ now, and there are def people who are confused/can't follow)

@emmaaum Seeing the way you have bounced off a few of these type of shows, I honestly think wuxia/xianxia/Chinese court dramas/intrigue are not genres that you'd enjoy (and this is perfectly okay, we all like different things)... so yeah, this is an anti-rec for you

Also, keeping in mind that you do not enjoy what you consider stressful media, this is very stressful.

@emmaaum When I said wuxia/xianxia/court intrigue/etc. doesn't seem to be for you, I am not saying that you are too thick to get it. I am saying exactly what I am saying, which is I don't think you enjoy the tropes and the types of stories contained within these genres.

I am sorry your disability makes it hard. If you're still interested in giving all these stories a try, I am not dissuading you. But whatever you did not like about them is not gonna change very much from one series to another.

The flavour of the friends -> enemies -> lovers in the series of fics, House of Mirrors (Suzaku/Lelouch, Code Geass) is still so delicious years later.

Excerpt:

“What?” Suzaku demanded with frustrated anger, holding the knife to Lelouch’s eye. It must have been very hard, to earn to fight Lelouch for so many years just to find out his enemy could no longer understand the nature of his revenge. “What did you expect? You must have seen that coming as soon as you agreed to come with me. Wasn’t that why you’ve come? For Euphie? For everybody else? For the good person you once were before you betrayed us all? So you could have a little honor at the end? So there would at least a sane part of you at the end?”

“Idiot. That was not why I’ve come with you.”

Honour, values, small talk when he was about to poke his eye out. As much as all that still annoyed him, Lelouch found some comfort in the fact that Suzaku hadn’t changed.

“I’ve come with you because you’re my friend.”

@Forestofglory mm, that's why the "romance" is more like... More of what they already do for each other xD

I like it when it's about all the other emotions. The intimacy, the care, the emotions, and when the story is about them solving things together. So I normally find my ships in stories that are very, very romance lite. Stories that do not foreground romance at all.

On the outskirts of the capital, there is a ghost market. It was originally a place where the children of some wealthy families took out their belongings and sold them, but they couldn't bear to lose face, so they set up stalls in the market late at night, with only one oil lamp lighting the stalls. It was bright, and people buying things couldn't see who was selling them. Later, this kind of market gradually became a climate and turned into a specific black market. Generally, the market opens on the third or fourth day and closes at dawn on the fifth day. Yushitai got wind that this black market had become a specific place for certain officials to sell bribes, and there was a force behind it. Liu Yuan, together with two officials from Yushitai and Dali Temple, disguised themselves as common people and went to the ghost market to get a feel for it. In order to disguise themselves, the three officials randomly bought some worthless things from the stalls. Liu Yuan bought this pen holder casually.
