For fun here's an example of the translation editing I've been doing:

Original text: 裒謂夫人曰：「聞子密緯真氣，注心三清，勤苦至矣。扶桑大帝君敕我授子神真之道。」

first draft translation: The assembly said to the Lady: “I’ll tell you the secret commentary of genuine Qi, concentrate your mind on the Three Highest Immortals, toil bitterly to the extreme (work as hard as you can)!” Mulberry Tree Emperor recommended that I instruct you in the Dao of genuine spirits/immortality.”

So a lot it is basic clean up a long those lines. A lot of it is a also trying to figure out who all these xian are! And which one's are the same person really (This where some background reading comes in handy)

I think the next stage will be to work on consistency in names and such

I know translating names is a bit controversially but at the moment we've been translating the titles. That seems to be stand in the academic publications I've been reading for background. But I might change my mind about it

@villainousfriend @geraineon They did do a wuxia special issue last year! (I'm not sure if the article Neon linked is part of the special issue! )

They do have a patoeion and also do a yearly fundraiser -- I'll try to remember to tell you about it next time

The thing I'm doing of reading a lot of history and classical Chinese stories to improve my understanding of xianxia is basically like reading Beowulf to understand today's fantasy novels (I enjoy reading this stuff and I'm not going to stop but I have to keep it in perspective)
