One of the PS2's greatest fighters. Hefty, robust gameplay, with a massive roster and a fun story. Bonus Devil Within game is a load of toss though, and the final boss is the franchise's cheatiest yet.
@wrathoskvro Yeah I found 4 to be pretty good as well! Just needed 20 odd years separation from its release to get there 😂 great atmosphere in 4 though, and a killer soundtrack
I can understand why 4 was a miss for fans, especially at the time - I actually wrote about my experiences with it a few weeks ago!
Tag I have a ton of nostalgia and love for, although over time I've come to prefer fighting games with some narrative weight to them as well as being mechanically strong
A point-and-click adventure based on the idea of the UK colonising the galaxy post-Brexit (terrifying). The jokes don't land well, it tries to make a funny out of racism and flops, and references abound without purpose or hilarity. Nope.
Just as an afterthought, the fact that a game about Britain colonising the galaxy was made by a Northern Irish development team is really uncomfortable.
This week we're diving into the very earliest years of fighting games with the original - and far more obscure compared to its storied sequel - Street Fighter!
Just finished the 1st season of The Bad Batch (I know, a bit behind as per usual). Like a lot of non-movie Star Wars content seems to be these days, thought it was a bit of a slow stuttering start but it led into a really impressive and fun finale The 2nd half of the season in particular was mostly a string of good episodes that properly cemented the series as moving from the Clone War era into the new Empire.
Not sure I agree with grumblings about Omega; yes, child characters suck etc etc but she was pretty cool. Liked the way Omega set up the arc about re-canonising the ending of Kamino and helped put Star Wars into the echelon of modern "sad dad" media thanks to her relationship with Hunter.
Also adored the inclusion of sound effects from Republic Commando thanks to the fact that the sound designer for the series loves saving old SW audio material, and the very deliberate use of the same shots for the destruction of Kamino as the destruction of Taris in KOTOR.
@lovestha I'm not sure. I don't think there's anything here that wouldn't be suitable for a 6-7 year old, but I wonder if the story points wouldn't be better suited for 10+
2024 gaming backlog no.12 - Street Fighter (Arcade)
The true beginning of fighting games as a genre, but not one you should ever play. Insane difficulty and impossible special moves make for a miserable grinding experience.

Mail day! Latest round of Pokemon cards for the cube - this time its from Team Rocket so we get the powerful but lower HP Dark monsters. We've also got our first promo for the cube, the Mew in the lower right which is from around the release of the first movie
@lovestha Yeah some sort of red marker pen that must've been put on it at some point. I tend to prioritize buying poor, played, or damaged cards for the cube to keep the cost down and because it means you know these cards have had a history and a bit of character, you know? So, this Mew was marked and therefore dirt cheap 😂
@lovestha in fact if you look super closely it looks like where some kid has tried to write a 1 in front of the HP to make this Mew 3 times harder to kill 😅 I just it, it's a little glimpse into the history of this card!
@Roundcat That's interesting! I suspect it'll actually be a little more like "useful utility" in my cube since it's singleton, so card draw effects like Oak and Bill are a touch harder to come across!
