Environmentalist who believes in the power of good, or, to borrow from Spinoza "adequate", information. Concerned with how a rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain world will re-shape society, and in particular the way this intersects with national security and international stability.

The stupidity of this is the Conservative Party of Canada has somehow convinced people that they are better off with less money in their pockets, while also doing less to combat #climatechange.

When Hitler expanded his empire, many countries were poorer, technologically inferior, and less well organised than Nazi Germany.

Now that Putin expands his empire, we are much richer than Russia, technologically superior, and we have NATO.

And still, American and European politicians are waiting for a Pearl Harbour moment, before they will get serious about defeating this dictator.

What an embarrassing moment in history.

@forthy42 @randahl most of this is neither fun nor factual. Roosevelt very much did want to take in the Nazis, as did the vast majority of Americans. It is true that Hitler admired segregation, and that he cast his wars as a struggle against colonialism (but more so capitalism), but his quest for Lebensraum was an echo of it, not emancipation from it.

Contrary to earlier reports, the Biden admin will reportedly hold off on a final decision regarding long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, for Ukraine. A U.S. official told Axios there is still a debate within the White House on this. https://www.axios.com/2023/09/15/atacms-long-range-missiles-zelensky-ukraine-biden

@kevinrothrock weigh to the point of indecision isn’t weighing. But I get your point.

@cadence022 @bookstodon Not familiar with Mistborn (might check it out now) but the Senlin Ascends series is incredible world building.

Energi Media is not mass media. Our audience is mostly engaged energy nerds. Still, Google and Facebook have us thinking about how to stop depending upon their platforms for our audience.

How would you like to engage with our journalism? Email? Our website? Something else?

@buff12ca @Chigaze @MarkhamHislop I’ve been wondering how DuckDuckGo will deal with the Online News Act. Presumably it’s subject to the same conditions Google is?

Interesting. A quick scan shows that it is applied depending on factors such as the size of the intermediary, whether the market gives them a strategic advantage over news businesses, and whether they occupy a prominent market position. The CRTC would determine this. So, while not targeted explicitly at FB and Google it is at the position they currently occupy. DDG may not be there right now. Personally kind of appreciate the intention of this.
