    @fkamiah17 Nelson Mandela never renounced the armed struggle, which was the reason the Apartheid regime kept him gaoled for so long.

    On 11, the whole system along with was taking 500 MB of RAM. On Debian 12, the system takes 850 MB of RAM. On Trixie/Sid-unstable, it takes 1.3 GB. I honestly don't know what they're shoving in it.

    With and , it takes 1.6 GB on idle. Since when Cinnamon, a gnome2/gtk3 fork takes (or should take) as much RAM as Gnome4/gtk4? Something's amiss.

    @nekohayo Debian running on my "new" computer habitually uses more RAM than my old computer had in total.

    I'm wondering what else this RAM is supposed to be doing if not used by my computer?

    The other day I saw a new revised/edited version of "What is to be done" has been produced.

    This quote, as a slogan, is the kind of thing that Lenin was arguing against.

    It's basically terrorism, a call for mass murder; not a programme for socialism.

    "Peace and bread", "All power to the Soviets", good slogans.

    "Let's hang all the capitalists with the rope they sell us" ... no, that's more a teenage anarchist's hallucination.

    My poor little . Today I noticed (how could I not), that it was randomly freezing, so that I had to reboot.

    Tonight I decided run the hardware diagnostics and it failed on a couple of memory tests 😢

    So, I opened it up and looked at the RAM, and it was slightly wonky, with it not even clipping in properly at one end.

    I reseated it and ran the tests again and it's passed (phew!)

    Will this poor machine continue to survive me (before it was the faulty battery I fitted)? I hope so.

    Soy Tempeh finished

    The first tempeh I made, about 6 years ago, was soy. I do have an attachment for my mixer to crack the beans.

    Total fermenting time was about 36‐40 hours.

    Talk about being forgiving! I let it get too hot the first night (46° C) but it recovered and produced beautiful blocks.

    Well over 5,000 children have been murdered by Israeli shells, rockets and bombs.

    Thousands upon thousands murdered in massacre after massacre. Even a fleet of ambulances evacuating patients deliberately targetted. Whole neighbourhoods flattened with the bodies of the residents beneath.

    ... and all the EU commission can bring itself to say is "humanitarian crisis."

    Utter shame upon the EU for their complicity, and their role in arming Israel. Words hardly suffice.

    Well, I finally have up and running on my desktop computer, with a working NVidia driver and working wifi. It's been MUCH more of a fight than I feel it should have been, especially getting networking up.

    Still have to get a proper software development environment going, don't want to keep using .
