Friday night Glencadam Whisky Tasting 😄 we are kicking off with the PX Sherry Cask then the Reserva De Porto Tawny and finishing with the 10 yo. All three are 46% abv, NC, NCF, great value at under 50UK (the ten is under 40) and delicious 😀

PX finish - dark fruit, figs, raisins, cherries and spicy ginger.
Tawny Port finish - bags of red fruit, jammy spice and vanilla.
10 y/o - Bright and citrusy, banana and pineapple. Zesty. Nutmeg spice.

Settling down to Friday night football and a Scottish Cup Game - Morton facing Motherwell with the winners through to the quarter-finals. I fancy Greenock Morton to get through.

I like Friday night football - far more competitive and exciting than Premiership stuff. This is a cup match.

Well, Clyde were a wee bit disappointing and Aberdeen deserved winners despite being a bit dull.

A real winter warmer sherry bomb.

Lindores, Cask of Lindores. 49.4% abv, NC, NCF, NAS

Dark chocolate and vanilla. Packed full of dark sweet sherried fruit - figs, date, currants. Smooth creamy mouthful with a lasting spicy, liquorice finish.

Football finished and now turning my attention to the wonderful compelling on iplayer.

I MUST NOT sit here sipping whisky and binge-watching until 2am

Childish I know but this appeals to my sense of humour - "Who's for another Shyte?" and as I pass it around, I can ask, "What do you think of this Shyte?"

All the stuff you might avoid in a whisky, 40% abv, NAS, CF, e150a but it's produced by Adelphi and only costs £24 and it turns out I was pleasantly surprised. It smells like a blend, loads of caramel, toffee and touches of peat and smoke. It could be JW Black until I taste it and I realise it's way better than that. A nice smooth mouth feel of more sweet toffee, orchard fruit and coastal saltiness. A lingering finish of Crème Brûlée and beach bonfire. It's never going to be in the top ten or even the top one hundred, but it's fun!

Built in 1898 I am surprised that Glen Elgin is still operating! It didn't start production for two years after opening. Auctioned off in 1901 at an enormous loss, closed down and sold four times within six years, the purchase by DCL in 1936 brought some stability and it produced one of the main whiskies for White Horse blend. Up until 1950 the whole distillery was operated and lit by paraffin and survived until 1964 when it was demolished and completely rebuilt, capacity increased from two to six stills with six worm tubs.

Glen Elgin 11, Infrequent Flyers, 51.3% abv, NC, NCF
Sweet vanilla icing along with fruity apples and notes of herbs and cut grass. Nice toffee and vanilla fudge on the palate with hints of banana and lemon zest coming through. Medium finish with more toffee and slight dry oak.

Settling down to Friday Night Football from the with Raith against The Jags. Looks like a great game on paper.

The increase is down to extra tax imposed by the UK Government. 75% of a bottle goes to the UK Treasury. I've found Tesco better value but I think your closest store will be Oxgangs.

#Halloween is an ancient Celtic Tradition from #Scotland, #Ireland and #NorthernIreland.

Let's get this quite clear traditionally Halloween is -

Guising - not #TrickorTreat which is some American nonsense. You need to tell a joke, or a story or sing a song on the doorstep before you are offered anything. It's not just a case of turning up and plunging your hand into a bowl of goodies and sweets (note - it's NOT candy)

Tumshie Lanterns - not pathetic pumpkin things which anyone can carve out - your hands need to be sore and possibly bleeding at the end of carving with your mum's best cutlery. You also need to get that gentle cooking turnip aroma when you put a wee candle in there. 😄

Dookin for apples or nuts, not bobbing.

Treacle Scones strung on a string eaten with your hands behind your back.

Read the story of #Samhain.

Roast nuts and pull kale for love and luck.

Finally, make costumes and guises at home, We shouldn't be supporting supermarket profiteering. 😀

@greub One of my favourite whiskies is Knockando 12 which is not easy to come by here in Scotland but is in every French supermarket and at a great price. I head to the Dordogne each June to meet up with guitar-playing friends and the first stop is Intermarché SUPER Ribérac for three or four bottles!
