No more unicode hacks! This makes the Fediverse more usable!

I knew this update was supposed to support this, but this is the first time I've seen this in the wild.

This post was composed in Friendica, and Mastodon now accurately displays:

  • Quotes
  • Bold
  • Italics

Currently, I’ve only seen rich text rendered in Mastodon’s native web app. I don’t see it in the mobile app.

@atomicpoet you could always run your own instance and set up a cron job to pull latest code and restart... Your instance might explode more often though, if you do that 🤣

As former Community Manager of Diaspora, @deadsuperhero has important insights on ActivityPub vs. AT protocol.

Diaspora was once the most widely adopted platform on the Fediverse. At one point, it had 500,000 accounts.

But Diaspora refused to adopt ActivityPub. As a result, they’re a ghost of their former selves.

That could happen to Mastodon. Bluesky too.

That is, if protocol adoption doesn’t diversify across apps.

@mike @fediversenews Having forums talk to Mastodon, et al. would be a stretch goal for sure. Wondering aloud, what would be the problem with blindly assuming a title from "first line\n\n", or if no match, then first X characters...

@arstechnica It's times like this I wonder what the contractual obligations and consequences are for an overrun (either on cost or delivery time) like this.

It seems like whenever this happens, the end result is a shrug and an "oh well, what're ya gonna do!"

You'd think if it's a government contract, they'd have all the cards in the vendor negotiation.
