been using my canon R8 camera for a little while now taking bullshit photos just to learn how it works and I gotta say, it's the best camera I've ever used - first canon camera I've ever used too (except for a few hours with the EOS 6D a decade ago)

Tis the Glorious 25th of May you sons of mothers, now sing!

All the little angels rise up, rise up.
All the little angels rise up high!
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up?
How do they rise up, rise up high?
They rise heads up, heads up, heads up, they rise heads up, heads up high!

Is it my imagination or has Google totally broken the "tools" button in Google News search? I normally use it to order things the way I want and to narrow it to the time period I want. The buttons still there but now it does.. nothing

@decryption the 24-105L is a very good general purpose lens and the customisable action ring on it is very handy

Christ on a crutch Microsoft you bloody did not just add random ass widgets to the login screen did you? You did? WTF for? Who asked for this?

@decryption its a fcking lock screen. I do not wish to look or interact with the lock screen other than when unlocking. What the shit is the purpose of this

dawnstar,
@dawnstar@aus.social avatar

@decryption one minute I'm using something like VS code which I quite like then somehow something by the same company does something that seems to be designed by someone that enjoys shoving live grenades up their own ass

Man I am so excited to find out which dozen or so of the new announcements from Google today will be renamed, tweaked, renamed again, changed direction, renamed to be the name of existing Google product and then finally unceremoniously killed within the space of six months

    @decryption did that include getting the power points repositioned?

    dawnstar, to random
    @dawnstar@aus.social avatar

    @decryption so uh.. looks like not only has the ACSC reclaimed the cybergovau twitter handle but they also scrubbed all the social media icons from cyber.gov.au

    dawnstar,
    @dawnstar@aus.social avatar

    @decryption actually more amusing than that, the social media links are still there, they've just hidden them

    dawnstar,
    @dawnstar@aus.social avatar

    @decryption @withers so its gets kind of intersting. compare todays:

    https://www.cyber.gov.au/about-us/terms-of-use

    with a wayback from a month or so ago

    https://web.archive.org/web/20240407183322/https://www.cyber.gov.au/about-us/terms-of-use

    Note how it now links to only ASD branded stuff now, anything with ACSC name for socials has been replaced with either ones that only ref cybergovau or ASD, not ACSC. The YouTube channel they had appears to have had entirely vanished.

    Definetly some sort of internal poiitics rebranding dance has been going on quietly for the last month or so

    @decryption particulary as when we returned home we found a part of the roof had lifed in our abscence and we've been waiting for a roofer to repair it and I have no idea what we are going to do. I can't get up there to tarp it myself

    Ah I see we are once again importing unsubstantiated panic from another country

    I'm not sure what it is about "hacking" articles that makes the normally fairly sane ABC to totally lose its mind and become utterly unable to report rationally but its a serious problem

    Folks I need some help. I need to write a CFP for a cyber security conference and frankly I am massively overwhelmed with where to even start. My subject is solid, its something I know a lot about and can easily talk to but previously I've been invited to present, this is my first time asking to present so I am entirely aimless. I work better with examples, so if you have any that would be greatly appreciated

    Googles just informed me they are jacking the price of YouTube premium from $9.99AUD/month to $16.99AUD/month

    I don't mind paying to use the ad free experience but that hike is taking the absolute piss

    Three months after our house got flooded in the Christmas Eve/New Years storms we are finally home once again with the cats. Not sure what I expected from 2024 but spending the first quarter of it living and working out of a one bedroom apartment wasn't it

    dawnstar,
    @dawnstar@aus.social avatar

    @jpm overall the repairs weren't that major. All the skirting boards had to be replaced, a ~40cm strip of plaster on all affected walls had to be cut off and replaced along with the internal insulation. Carpets had to be replaced, everything needed to be repainted. In terms of actual work done it was about two weeks of time all up. The rest of it was waiting for walls to dry out, hygiene inspections (that alone took two weeks!) and for trades to be assigned.

    Just so much waiting and the comms from our insurance corp was almost entirely non existent

    @decryption re the search engine code, the 2023 code is the right one but as per the PDF:

    "The SES Code will come into effect six months after
    registration"

    Which is now (it was registered Sept 2023)

    dawnstar,
    @dawnstar@aus.social avatar

    @decryption They always do. Codes are more like.. guidelines and have varying levels of time before they come into effect to allow industries prepare etc
