People who love people please tell them to stop using Google cloud and Google cloud products

Because somewhere out there somewhere probably made redundant is someone or a former team that decided sometime in 2017 that if you want to pull stuff out of Google then f*ck you.

Because rClone will fail if you have more than a few hundred gb. Read one nightmare of one guy with 1.5Tb to pull.

Good luck with that

Now imagine having 17 million Lego pieces made into 377 beautiful Lego models. And you give them to a storage company to keep safe.

Imagine when you got them back they are now in 1788 new models none of which look like anything other than something a 3 year old would make out of multiple coloured bricks.

That's what happens to your data when you make the decision to put it into any Google product.

Death by json, inane folder definitions and remote connection session termination at will.

Google is crap. Period.

You will get your data back but this is like leaving your car at the airport carpark and coming back and someone has recycled it into 161816 small paperweights.

You get all the car back just not in any build order.

But heh, you had cheap storage for a decade

I take an afternoon off to service my car, flush the engine and change the oil, change all the filters, new plugs, check all the levels.

All fine.

Then I hear a noise....

A bad noise

Which is a thrust bearing on the clutch which is about to fail.

So luckily I have a spare clutch kit on the shelf with new brake pads and disc

So that's tomorrow's job before the school run.

Because everyone has almost a complete car in spares in the workshop.

Wonder what a full annual service plus brakes and clutch would be at a main dealer ??

If you can do it yourself you should

Don't let stuff scare you. I'm a computer programmer but I also am not scared of spanners.

@MHowell exactly

I only give in when something defeats me.

Once it was one nut. I tried everything.

Took it to my garage and stood and watched three of their guys try everything.

In the end they used cutting gear

New inflight kit for passengers travelling on Boeing Max aircraft looks to be standard issue

Half thinking of starting an hashtag here, about the dire, dire state of UK (global?) higher education. Sharing nuggets of senior management decisions, neoliberal language, and overall slow collapse.

Won’t work of course because most of us can’t risk honesty, but honestly: the everyday reality of what is happening deserves recording in all its depressing and damning detail.

@pvonhellermannn

I went there when it was Canterbury College (becauze I am old).

I am not remotely surprised
