@vanessawynn @AqiDrago @derthomas @jake4480 @MetalheadDana Interestingly pizza is 'feminine' in Greek too. I wonder if pizza is female in all languages that have gendered nouns, and if so - why? Who decides that pizzas are female while the sky is male (in Greek: o ouranos)? And though the sky is male, the clouds are neuter (ta sinnefa; pl) and the rain is female (i vrohi). And then some words that you may think would be 'obvious' aren't. Steaks and flowers are both neuter. Bizarre!

My wife’s theory is that maybe the masculine/feminine words once had “gods/goddesses” or male/female “animating spirits” from prehistory, and that the genders of those spirits “stuck”. Anything without a god/goddess behind it fell through the grammatical cracks and ended up neutral. I’m not convinced. 🤔

In Greek most countries are female, the occasional neuter (Luxembourg, Mexico, Israel, Congo and a bunch more), and a single (as far as I know) male country - Lebanon. Like wtf??? Here’s the kicker - capital cities in English speaking countries have different genders in Greek! In Australia, I can automatically and correctly get the gender of our cities correct in Greek (it just ‘sounds right’) but I don’t know why!

    Hello fellow metalheads. Apologies for the radio silence. Sometimes I just need to immediately cease all social media for a while. As good as Mastodon is, as fantastic as metalhead.club is, and as wonderful and friendly as you all are - my brain occasionally says "Stop!". It's me, not you.

    @HailsandAles I hear you. I've got 2112 but I can't handle more than one of their songs at a time. Also - and I know I'll make myself pretty unpopular saying this - Tool. You know how dogs can hear a super annoying frequency that drives them crazy but no one else can hear? That's the Tool vocalist for me. I can't even listen to one whole track of theirs. Same with Meshuggah until the most recent album - something there I could finally sink my teeth into. Brains eh? Fucking weird!

    @HailsandAles Look - I get it. All of us have some completely left-field guilty pleasures that in normal circumstances we'd be embarassed to admit to. For me it's Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album. Something about the Abba sampling on the opening track maybe - fucked if I know, but I really like this record for some reason.

    @sharan I feel for you. You’ll be sans SansAmp. (So sorry! I just couldn’t resist). On a serious note, if you’ve got the time and inclination you could try opening it up and using an electronics freezer spray to try and diagnose the issue eg. poor solder joint, crack on the board, dodgy socket or switches. There are guides on the internet. But only do this if you’re out of warranty.
