I have been involved in IT since the 1960s. A health crises brought that to an end in the 1990s. Now fully retired I produce and present radio shows which I provide free of charge for radio/web stations around the world. Main interest is the music of the 20th century. Also keen on old movies I find on You Tube. Love to read anything from cereal boxes to books.
I have been using #linux as a desktop since 1999. Started with #debian then #ubuntu now using #linuxmint and some #raspberrypi servers.

Budapest, 1955. A rather cute little boy stares at the camera. He seems almost lost. Less than a year later this very same street would see some of the fiercest fighting as Soviet tanks crushed the revolution. I imagine his parents would not have let me outside then.

Budapest, 1962. The Ecseri Street flea-marketing Budapest has been around forever, even in the days of the communist regime. After 1989 and the fall of communism, there were real bargains to be had there. Not so much now, but well worth a visit nonetheless.

PSA: phone scam from NZ phone number.

Forgot to post this last night. Yesterday, I had a call from 0632504886. A recorded voice message announced it as a call from One NZ (formerly Vodafone) to notify me that my service was to be terminated and instructing me to press one or more digits. Suspecting it was a scam, I dumped the call. After checking to One NZ customer service, they confirmed these call are NOT from One NZ.

WINZ is using MailChimp to send email. Email. A public service agency is paying a private company in the US to send email for it. Seriously? WTF.

I've been saying for ages that NZ Post ought to be pivoting into hosting email. Handling large-scale mailouts like this is a classic example of a service they could actually be making money out of, doing the digital equivalent of their traditional business.

Eger, 1967. A sight guarenteed to send NIMBYs into fainting spells. Government built housing for the masses. Fancy that. Sure they may not look that stylish, but they were solid, dry, and affordable. And still the same today, over 50 years later as you can in the screenshot of the same street, from Google Streetview in May 2021.

I love the girl in the photo holding the hand of a man whom I presume is her father.

@InayaShujaat I got the bottles from someone else. There is a blue cap in the bottle that I think goes in the hole in the lid. How did it get in the bottle? There is a rim on it that stops it falling in? Yes you can peel it off but can it be put back on to keep water in?
