This is an interesting post from Rich Redman from The Game Mechanics about #Adventures not selling very well & their role in #DnD & #TTRPG in general. It's from 2004, but a lot of it is still relevant today, especially for creators. #DungeonsAndDragons

@Tim_Eagon Totally. I also think their popularity is probably be greater now (especially with all the newer people coming into the game). I also think now there is less "do-it-yourself" culture now.

The key to using random encounters in #DnD is to tie them to your world some how. They are randomly generated, not random to the world. Create your own tables & add what is there. Then, when rolling for them, have them sometimes link.

By linking, I mean tie them to your campaign world, recent events, NPCs, or even to each other. The tables themselves can be as simple or complex as you want to make them. And I have a whole issue of my zine, #d12Monthly, focus on this topic. bit.ly/3ViBVrq

Does anyone know if #OSR or old school #DnD is growing in popularity? And, if so, how fast? Any actual stats?

I know my zine sales have increased, & anecdotally, it's new people discovering older school games. Just curious. #DungeonsAndDragons #TTRPG

Back from Liburnicon in Croatia. The long flight(s) back, followed by a cold I must have caught in the airport or plane made re-entry into normal life a bit rough, but all is relatively well now. Croatia is beautiful (although like most of the planet, very hot right now), and the people were absolutely lovely and incredibly generous.
