If you're looking to kick Google or DDG or whatever I'd recommend giving SearXNG a look. It's a meta search engine. https://docs.searxng.org/ You can self host it, it's pretty easy, or you can just use any one of a wealth of public instances. https://searx.space/
I'm fairly certain Kagi is borrowing from SearxNG and making some slight modifications. The only thing Kagi holds over SearxNG that I see is the maps feature.
Why are mobile OS's the only one's that let you uninstall straight from the app icon? That sounds kind of nonsense no?
Winders, with the exception of some of MS's own apps, gives you an uninstall option but that doesn't uninstall. It takes you to the apps window where you have to manually scroll to find the app then three dot to choose uninstall where the OS clearly knows where that is.
Is there even a linux that can do this? Maybe KDE as long as the app is a flatpak?
I'm so dismayed with the state of coffee at McDonald's I'm tempted to sign back up to Twitter just to holler at them. Maybe theyve jumped to threads?
Just got parked because they can't figure out a medium Americano with 2 shots instead of one. One being a bit of a travesty to begin with.
The last one I ordered seemed to have the espresso, cream, and sweetner put in then the water added and was not stired. Dirty water for 80% of the cup. The last 20% was quite nice
I started ordering Americans because the drip coffee is always served over charcoal. This isn't specific to the one I go to most often. If it's past 8am just expect water strained through bbq ash. Everything else in that store, I used to work for McDonald's, is on a timer. How is it that coffee gets no such treatment? :AngeryCat:
I think I might be about to start paying for Kagi. I have SearxNG. Am I dumb for thinking about doing this? Is DDG and the like so bad? Is Kagi actually that good?
@Tekchip I'd say give Kagi a try so you know for sure. You can buy prepaid credit if you want to avoid a subscription. I think Starter is too small for most people, you'll probably need the Professional plan.
That said - I'd never heard of SearxNG. And now you have me wondering if Kagi is derived from SearxNG. It looks & feels familiar...
@kohan I have been trying it. Just expired my 100 free searches. Thus my quandary.
I'm glad you called out how similar the results look and feel to SearxNG. Though I will say image search results do seem better if only slightly.
The inclusion of the LLM seems like it could be nice. I haven't tested it extensively. It did interject as a search result once and the information was referenced and seemed good.
Hey, just a friendly reminder that Slay the Spire is a really fun game, addictive, unable to stop, will likely ruin your life. Ahem, excuse me. I've got to go do important things that totally aren't playing Slay the Spire.
How TF in 2024 is it harder to cancel satellite radio service than it is to break up with a girlfriend of many years?
The transcript is just over two pages long. I had to ask 4 times for cancellation each time being offered continually lower rates until I started to get pissed and use all caps.
Channeling Jerry Seinfeld. What's the deal with the lack of flatpak server/services software?
On Ubuntu Server a ton of command line tools and services are snap packaged. Why isn't this happening with flatpak? Is there some fundamental difference that prevents flatpak from being used like snaps are on the server?
Just now getting to Rebel Moon Part 2. Movie has some weird ass cinematic choices. I'm only 30 minutes in and so far I've watched about 10 minutes of people collecting grain and drinking water. Scythefi?
Also did second unit forget how to focus a lens or...half this movie looks like it has vaseline all over it.
