Good morning! Spurred by increasing humidity I've gotten my laundry into the dryer + the kitchen straightened. Soon I'll head out for groceries.

I've got to figure out it it's worth it to water the hanging porch plant that is home to our Carolina wren nest. The eggs haven't hatched yet, but if I can catch the momma bird on a break from sitting on them perhaps I can add some water to the opposite side.

A bigger question is whether the screened porch will be too warm for sitting. 🤞

Good morning! The weekend is almost upon us, and it appears it will be a good one, weather-wise. That's going to break the string of wet weekends we've had. For now it feels more like September than May - cool with no humidity.

M is having his ham radio buddies over tomorrow, so I'll be left to my own devices. No worries, I'll come up with something.

Today will include the usual walking, reading, gardening and a little cleaning. Not bad, not bad at all. 😊

Good morning! A day of sun + ideal temperatures here, and I'm grateful for that. I'm also grateful my TX daughter has power. In Tuesday's storms she + her husband lost internet, but the electricity stayed on. Most others were not so lucky.

She works in a private school. The damage and power outages were so widespread that school is cancelled for the rest of the week, effectively ending the school year.

It's only a matter of time before the effects of climate change touch us all.

Good morning! It's a day that I can keep the windows open a little longer than usual. The humidity is low and there's a nice breeze blowing.

Top of the to-do list is to ice my daughter's birthday cake. As is fitting for a middle child, her birthday is almost overlooked in favor of the Memorial Day activities. But attention must be paid + making a cake is an easy task.

The sun is still low enough that if I head outside now I've got shade and cool temperatures, so that'll be first.

Good morning. Granddaughter is marching in the local Memorial Day parade, so we’ll be up and out soon. She’s a member of her middle school marching band. For once I’m hoping the cloud cover holds so the temperature stays tolerable.

The rest of the day will be quiet and (hopefully) uneventful.

Good #SofaSunday to you! It’s too early to tell what kind of weather day we’ll have. One thing is certain- it will be an easy day, ending with a cookout later.

It’s an informal family tradition that we grill out for the summer holidays of Memorial Day, July 4th + Labor Day and whatever family is in the area shows up.

Everyone contributes, even the grandchild. Her job is to take a count of hamburgers, cheeseburgers +/or hot dogs wanted.

Good food and simple fun.

I've got a grocery run to do before rain comes through. The summer tourist season is about to begin, so it's time to start the habit of doing errands in the middle of the week. Roads and stores around here are too busy on the weekends, including Fridays.

Each year we adjust our use of the beaches + restaurants as we share with the visitors that keep our local economy going. We grin + bear it and breathe a sigh of relief when Labor Day rolls around.

Let the summer games begin.

Good Wednesday morning! Waking up to a gorgeous morning. It occurs to me that Memorial Day weekend is coming up + I'll need to pick up some groceries before the tourists descend. Tomorrow is supposed to be cloudy, so I'll put it off until then. That opens up more porch time.

No weeding today. After finding a tick on me last night I'm taking a break! 😬

It's going to be a busy day at the birdbath, with the 80F temperatures, so I'm headed out to clean + fill it up.

Good Wednesday morning. The weather outside is miserable. My mood is sunny — my mom got the brace taken off her arm! She’ll have some OT to build up strength, but otherwise she’s good to go. This is huge for a woman who prizes her independence. Try going through a day without the use of one arm and you’ll see how limited your activities are.

After having every aspect of her life derailed since mid-January she can now move forward again. Onward and upward!

Good #Slackerday morning to you. I'll join the chorus of folks who did NOT see the aurora borealis last night. Our chances were slim, due to thick clouds, so my expectations were low. I never saw them during a 3-week trip to Alaska, years ago. I love the photos people are sharing, though. Keep them coming! 💗

I'm feeling particularly lazy today, and I'm just going to go with it. I know it will pass.

Good Friday morning. Habit got me out of bed this rainy morning. I felt like sleeping in but put it off for no apparent reason. Coffee hasn't helped a lot, so I'll try plan B, which is to get up and move.

There isn't much I absolutely have to do except terrorize the cats with the vacuum cleaner, but they are used to that.

Good Wednesday morning. Today is my granddaughter's 13th birthday. I'm not sure how that is possible, but there it is.

Since it's mid-week, the immediate family will get together for dinner and cake with strawberries and lots of teasing. I have to say, I am much happier to experience these teen years as a grandma than I was as a mom. At least age comes with some perspective.

Have a good day. Try to stay comfortable if you're in the heat, and safe if you've got storms.

I woke up early to a mild and sunny day, which has turned into a gray and drizzly one. Oh well, it’s Monday. Problem is, this is supposed to last all week. Sigh.

Lucy has decided she’s going to be cuddly this morning, so my usual Monday chores are postponed for now. There will be time for cleaning later.

Happy May! This is one of my favorite months. Lots of flowers, animal activity and better than average weather (usually). We’ll see what this year brings.

I have quite a few things on my to-do list, none of which will take too much time. I’ll be flitting from one thing to another, unless I get distracted and go in a completely different direction. The only sure things are a walk and some reading. I love days like this.

Good morning! Another day of temperatures in the 80Fs, so I'll head out to walk soon while it's still cool. I'm happy to be home all day.

The summer tanagers have arrived, already enjoying the bird bath this morning. I love seeing the male's bright red plumage. So far, he hasn't attacked his reflection in our windows, but the season is still young.

This afternoon I'm hoping to read out on the porch if it's not too warm. We'll see what the day brings.

Good Tuesday morning! The sun is up and the clouds are few. I’m going out to run some errands soon, so I can enjoy the good weather when I return.

The hummingbirds are gradually coming in greater numbers. I love that they aren’t afraid of us being close by. If they want a drink from our feeders they don’t care if we’re standing nearby or not. Such tiny, fearless little creatures.

Good morning! Crazy weather day- I woke up to strong sun, then rain, + now heavy clouds, all in the last 2 hours. I'm just savoring the coffee until things settle.

One of the things Maryland does well is mail-in voting. That is how I choose to vote. Our primary is May 14, but I've already received my ballot + sent it back in. This morning I've gotten a text that it was received by the Board of Elections. In May they'll notify me when it's counted. Easy peasy! 😍

Happy Monday! It's April. We're supposed to have high-speed fiber installed today and I can hardly wait. We'll finally join the majority of regular people with faster internet and the capacity for streaming. Those of us in rural areas have felt left out for too long.

So fingers crossed there will be no speed bumps, and everything goes according to plan, despite it being a Monday.
