So much for access to diagnosis. The doctor who was recommended to me doesn't take new patients. But of course doesn't write that on her website so I made myself nervous one hour long for a call of two seconds.

PossiblyAutistic,

@Cassandra which they do for every single week of vacation ...

PossiblyAutistic,

@Cassandra Also I wonder about the GDPR implications ... They don't have a need to know the information I gave them in the first sentence if they don't take new patients. And they state on the website that appointments can only be done by telephone so that they can allocate the right amount of time.

PossiblyAutistic,

@Cassandra they don't even have a need to know that I was trying to reach them if they don't take new patients. But they tricked me into calling them by fraudulent misrepresentation.

PossiblyAutistic,

@actuallyautistic ok, I guess adding the group afterwards does not retoot ...

Today I skipped two optional meetings. Instead, I sorted my Inbox (and Sent folder). I need to drastically reduce participation in pointless meetings. Law of two feet and such. I will mention in the next retrospective that I expect relevant outcome of these meetings to be documented.

PossiblyAutistic,

Today I tried out Aktives Weghören (active non-listening) in the one draining meeting I had.

PossiblyAutistic,

@Cassandra when my PC works again 😂

PossiblyAutistic,

@Cassandra Actively take off the headphones during the Daily when it's not my turn so as to avoid taking in information which I would then automatically process.

@actuallyautistic Is there something like a neurodivergent mentoring network? Just learnt about identity-based mentoring in the NPR Lifekit podcast.

PossiblyAutistic,

@actuallyautistic

Found this: https://theneurodiversitynetwork.com/career-services/mentoring/

But that's not really what I'm looking for. It's focussed on career, whereas I'm looking for mentoring in seeking diagnosis.

And it's quite expensive: 120 AUD (ok, that's only 73 €) for only 6 sessions. That's the fee basically just for pairing people up, it seems.

It doesn't really say anything about the frequency.

And apparently it's limited to Australia.

@ashleyspencer The rainbow spinners are the best. Not sure if the bearing is less wobbly, or maybe it's just because they are also much more well-balanced than others.

Is the UI of WhatsApp (Web) intentionally that bad? Why can't I just open a voice message separately, so that I can easily pause and resume it, and don't have to find it again on the page, only recognisable by that the listening progress indicator is somewhere in the middle.

Normal web design principles would suggest that it should be possible to just open it in a separate tab.

@actuallyautistic

PossiblyAutistic,

@actuallyautistic

Two more things

The total length of the message is only visible when it is not currently playing. Otherwise the current playback position is shown. Why not just "4:45 of 5:10" during playback?

Only the time of the message is shown. The date is shown as a caption in between messages, and at the top of the screen the "previous" date is shown as a kind of overlay. But behold: For the last week, weekdays are shown instead of dates.

Any recommendations for in-ear ANC headphones? I want to get my ears pierced, but my current headphones sit on my earlobe, which I imagine would be quite uncomfortable while they're healing.

#ActuallyAutistic @actuallyautistic

PossiblyAutistic,

@PurpleStephyr @actuallyautistic I'm happy with my Galaxy Buds. Except that I once lost one when wearing a bicycle helmet, and basically the helmet strap dragged it out.

@actuallyautistic How much of a thing is "friendzoning" with neurodivergents?

Does Spotify have a convenient way of continuing a playlist where I left off?

Use case: I was listening to my Weekly Mix / Release Radar for a bit, but then decided I need something else for focussed work (a whole album of something, because the generated playlists have too much variety and too much new stuff). But later I want to continue where I left left off, and I will not remember which song I last listened too, and looking it up in the history is annoying.

"We're keeping the Not Right Now status as we don't have any immediate plans to implement this. As soon as we have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here."

PossiblyAutistic,

I suspect Spotifiers don't actually use their product themselves ...

Being @actuallyautistic and #gifted for me means I often get told the following, initially:

„No! You‘re wrong! What a shit take! You have no idea what you‘re talking about! Stop the drugs, man!“ and the like.

After some discussion, people say:

„I have not thought of it this way. I got you wrong. We should actually consider doing it your way. You seem to have deeper insight than the average person.“

This often makes me question my place in this world. Anyone else? #actuallyautistic

PossiblyAutistic,

@haui @actuallyautistic You often does the second part actually happen? With that, I wouldn't question my place in the world. Without it, it's outright gaslighting.

PossiblyAutistic, to actuallyautistic

@actuallyautistic Normally when developing software, one has some mental model of data structures, contro flow, and the like. It probably does not have all details, but it's like an idea of a diagram in one's head, which can be dumped to a whiteboard. However, some people don't seem to have this. They can name what they want to achieve, and start modifying code, but they don't seem to be able to communicate any intermediate abstractions/concepts of what they envision. A sort of aphantasia?

PossiblyAutistic,

@f1337 @actuallyautistic Agilists teach systems thinking as it were a completely learnable skill. Which will result in applying methods without actually having an understanding of the system.

PossiblyAutistic,

@anantagd @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic Well well. She told me about potential differential diagnoses, like hypersensitivity (is that an actual thing?) and ADHD, and that needing a lot of structure can also be a normal personality trait. We went though some questions of the AQ50. Regarding social problems, I probably downplayed some things, but it's also quite hard to give a summary to a general question, without explicitly recalling specific instances. 1/x

PossiblyAutistic,

@anantagd @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic Feeling comfortable with new people only in pre-structured situations is allegedly normal, and multitasking / switching between tasks is difficult for everyone. I will contact her again if I have something to discuss, and she mentioned she could write me a referral that autism should be assessed if that helps.

That evening, my bicycle chain broke, and after that I forgot money in an ATM 🙄 (it was credited back the next morning, luckily ...)
