Registration for tutorials at useR! in Salzburg is open! I'll be teaching an in-person tutorial on Survival Analysis with tidymodels with @topepo .To register for the tutorial, log back into your conference registration and then modify it to include tutorials (and maybe a social event!) in Step 4 "Reg Options." It's a bit of clicking to get there, but the choice of tutorials and social activities is worth it!

To modify your registration: https://events.linuxfoundation.org/user/register/

Check it out, the #Shiny extension for #VSCode now supports both Shiny for R apps and Shiny for Python apps in everyone's second favorite IDE!

Along with the updates come a few neat features for deploying your Shiny apps as serverless ShinyLive apps using https://shinylive.io, or for saving a ShinyLive app as local #RStats or #Python files.

Learn more and see the extension in action in our release post: https://shiny.posit.co/blog/posts/shiny-vscode-1.0.0/

I can’t wait to present “Automate Your Quarto Dashboards with Posit Connect” at the monthly End-to-End Workflow with Posit Team!

• Create an ETL script on Posit Workbench that reruns on a schedule on Posit Connect
• Pin a dataset on Posit Connect and reading it in a #Quarto document
• Use #QuartoPub to create a dashboard (new in 1.4)!
• Schedule the dashboard to update on Posit Connect

And it’s my first project completely done in #Python 🐍

tidymodels has long supported parallelizing model fits across CPU cores. A couple of the modeling engines that #rstats #tidymodels supports for gradient boosting—#XGBoost and #LightGBM—have their own tools to parallelize model fits. A new blog post explores whether tidymodels users should use tidymodels' implementation, the engines', or both.

Do you like #sveltejs? Do you like #quartopub? Sverto 1.0 is here! https://github.com/jimjam-slam/sverto/releases/tag/v1.0.0

Easily include Svelte-powered #datavis in your Quarto docs and have them seamlessly react to your Observable JavaScript!

This new release is much easier to use, and I’ll be showing it off at #positconf2024!

Couldn't make it to posit::conf last year, but I'm excited to head back to it this year. I'll be giving a talk titled "Report Design in R: Small Tweaks that Make a Big Difference."

It's easy to drown in a sea of design advice, but we at R for the Rest of Us have found that a few small tweaks can make a big difference. In this talk, I will discuss ways that we have learned to make high-quality reports in R.

Excited to share that Great Tables is now BYODF (Bring Your Own DataFrame)!

We've supported both Polars🐻‍❄️ and Pandas🐼 DataFrames for a while, and have now removed our hard dependency on Pandas. This means that you can still use either DF, but don't have to install the other in order to use Great Tables.

In this post, we talk about:

  • 👯‍♀️ The things we currently depend on
  • 🏗️ The challenge of removing hard dependencies
  • 🫠 The approach we choose for making Pandas optional

It's been a busy Q1 for tidymodels with the release of features for survival analysis and fairness - but that's not even all! The post for tune 1.2.0 shows further goodies in that release. This new Q1 roundup post surfaces even more from across the package collection! These roundup posts highlight changes nice enough to mention but maybe not big enough for their own post. #RStats
