@genchat @genchat Yes. I'm lucky enough to have my grandfather's genealogy index card file, lots of papers he saved, and a book by a great uncle on my grandmother's side. All great things to use as starting points since there are very little info about where things came from. #genchat #genealogy

@genchat @genchat Having some of this sitting on a shelf at my parents house is one of the things that got me interested in genealogy. The books about the family were right next to the Encyclopedia Britannica - so clearly they had to be important 😀 #genchat #genealogy

We had a few mentions about gratitude for photographs, particularly those with writing on the back! Sometimes those photos were what led folks into #genealogy research to begin with. And we all know how photos can get the more reluctant to get talking! #genchat @genchat

@genchat @genchat I am very grateful for the family members who labeled photos in the albums! I have my grandmother's albums from college. I've been able to share photos of her college friends with their descendants. Most had never seen snapshots of their family from that era. #genchat

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention #genchat itself as something I've been thankful for. It's been part of my life since its beginning in 2013, connecting me with new #genealogy friends & even some cousins!

As a host since 2018, it's expanded my knowledge & my horizons.

And this past year, I'm especially grateful for this Mastodon community. It's been fun watching #genchat slowly grow & take hold. I'm looking forward to 2024! @genchat

KottalGenealogy, to Denmark

I am grateful that most of my ancestors are from #Denmark where access to records is free. Being able to learn about one's #FamilyHistory should be a right for everyone regardless of income or savings.
