Having joined Twitter just a year after it launched, seen its full arc since then, and having been on Bluesky in its early and chaotic days, I think @kissane nails it here.

And I would go a step further:

If Mastodon doesn’t become way more user friendly, it will forever remain a niche thing, and Bluesky and its protocol has the potential to become everything the existing Fediverse claims to want to become.

Curious, user friendly how? The only real problem I've had with Mastodon was in realizing it is many websites running the same protocol and not one site. As a casual user, it's been great.
