This is the sort of famous tourist attraction I never ever end up visiting. Life is too short.

Little Mermaid statue, Copenhagen: The world’s most overrated tourist attraction?

@timrichards @timrichards @timrichards whether the mermaid statue or the clamshell playhouse, calling them ,”must see,” or , “I’ll take a pass “is an individual choice. IMO, seeing something new is good, no matter what the reason for visiting. My significant other tricked me into a trip to Europe because I told her I wanted to see the Alexanderplatz ( or Fernsehturm?). Reason- because it was referenced in a Robert Ludlum novel. Did I see many more significant sights, of course.

Interesting thoughts; I suspect you do lose something by not having to work out a route in a more analogue way. Personally I find map-reading skills are still handy when using Google Maps, as it can be unreliable.

@timrichards Google Maps is great for A-B in a new area but a map and ‘bumping around’ a place does indeed build the mental map and the confidence to get around.

We need more people like this in the world.

@mikemathia After reading, I checked the date, thinking it would be something like 1951. How nice to see that people like that could still be in this world.

    I keep hearing that “#AI will solve the #climate crisis.”

    We don’t need new algorithms & generative AI for that.

    We already know exactly what we need to do to address* climate change.

    Our future will be determined by whether or not we choose to act. I’m hopeful we will.

    *Note: “Address” as in achieve better outcomes. Not “solve.” Climate change is here. We cannot avoid it, but we can achieve a more sustainable & equitable Earth.

    I disagree with "hide features from newbies and they'll discover it when they're ready".

    No, they won't.

    I've worked in the tech support trenches. I know how this goes.

    People use software to do what they believe is apparent and obvious to them but is, in actuality, an edge case use.

    And then when they discover your software can do it but it's been hidden from them for years due to a silly "KISS" philosophy, they get pissed.

    JohnnieMac,
    @JohnnieMac@mastodon.scot avatar

    @atomicpoet More software should prompt users after one or two months to review settings and/or explore the feature list. A little ‘AI’ could present a list of “if you do this…, you might want to try…”
