My gf told me I’m obsessed with stories about people stranded in snow. I don’t know what she means.

Here’s a video I took of a great rustic cabin I rented over a week ago in Val-des-Monts, Québec.

A perfect place to read horror novels on cold winter nights.

A video I took showing a log cabin surrounded by pine trees and a blanket of snow. Small yellow lights are affixed to the bottom of the roof. It’s close to dusk. There’s a porch on the side of the cabin.

Found these weird nightmare-inducing playing cards in a cabin I rented last week. This is the worst one:

Brad Marsh from the Ottawa Senators inexplicably chose to play without a helmet in 1993.

1993 still kinda feels recent to me.

Having a hard time finishing Stephen King’s last novel ‘Holly’… there’s a lot of filler but it has its creepy moments.

My working theory is that Jessica Fletcher framed hundreds of people for the 274 murders she committed in Cabot Cove.

I don’t know who’s in charge of the NHL but Patrick Roy should have been hired by the Kings. Martin St-Louis by the Blues. Garth Snow for the Avalanche. Miroslav Satan for the Devils (Correction: he DID play for them). Patrick Sharp for the Sabres.

We were going to host a Xmas brunch this morning for my gf’s father and we asked him to take a preventive Covid test. He tested positive (with no symptoms). Gf and I tested negative.

A good reminder to get yourselves tested today before seeing family/friends; the new variant is contagious AF.

For the last 20 mths, I’ve been asking myself why my gf and I still take #COVID precautions while the majority doesn’t.

The answer might lie with the amount of stress & worry we’ve experienced since 2020. We both work remotely 100%, we don’t have kids or go to restaurants, cinema, etc.

We reduced our risk to almost nill. Our daily stress was low while for most it was unbearable.

I think the constant worrying got to them after 2 yrs. Society gave up & decided Covid is no longer a threat.

I had a conversation today with someone who said they won’t take a Covid test out of principle because they don’t want to succumb to fear.

I think I’ve reached my limit for tolerating stupidity and carelessness. 🤦‍♂️

Donald Sutherland has been honoured with a Canada Post stamp.

I’m hoping they accept my submission:

I think I’d be a terrible kids’ birthday party organizer. We’re talking: Stews, pistachios, weird Twin Peaks jazz music, French mimes and Ingmar Bergman movie trivia.

Smurfette was originally created by Gargamel to spy on the Smurfs. She later defected and joined them. This would make a great HBO series with Sopranos-style grit, profanity & intensity.

#TheHoldovers is my favourite film of 2023 so far.

I didn’t expect it to like it so much. It’s very funny & moving. It’s about grief, friendship, vanity & learning how to open up to others.

The dialogue is sharp & hillarious. The profanity (especially from Giamatti) is like poetry.

I loved the homage to the 70s film aesthetics. It looks and sounds like a 50 yr old movie.

The chemistry between these 3 characters is what makes the film so compelling & amazing.

9/10

Dec 1st

Fanny and Alexander (1982)

Ingmar Bergman’s epic 5 hour film centres around a large close-knit family in early 1900s Sweden.

It has a beautiful and vibrant dreamlike quality to it, especially in the first act that takes place on Dec 24th.

The film is a rollercoaster of emotions. It balances humour, tenderness and darkness so well. One of my favourites from Bergman.

Dec 2nd

The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)

Words cannot express how weird, unsettling and nightmarish this is… it’s utterly unwatchable.

I never took psychedelic drugs but this is probably the closest thing to an acid trip.

George Lucas separated himself from this. The actors are ashamed.

It’s a fascinating watch. It’s here if you’re curious:
