I've been having some online-based conversations about the #Gaza War with an American Jew as of late.

He is a #Zionist and is convinced that the overall goal of #Palestinians is not only the destruction of the state of #Israel (an admittedly unrealistic goal), but also to drive all the Jews from this reborn #Palestine .

Personally, I am dubious. My assumption is that just like not all Israelis want to destroy the remaining Palestinian territories and drive their inhabitants out, so do not all Palestinians wish to drive out the Jews from a hypothetical future Greater Palestine.

But that's just my assumption - I don't really have a good overview of what various Palestinian groups want in terms of long-term goals. So can anyone share some good links and citations with me on this (since I no longer trust Google with search results, and with this topic less than most)?

@juergen_hubert But that's not a matter of belief. Hamas openly sais that these things are their goals.

Of course there will be lots of decent people too. But as Germans, we know from out own history what happens when those decent people are not the ones in power.

@juergen_hubert The group that until very recently was in power in Gaza, the most major city region in Palestine, until the IDF basically ended them. And they have been that for decades.

The group that DID carry out a genocidally-minded attack on October 7th. Under the cheers of the people of Gaza, financed by the people of Gaza, and not stopped by the people of Gaza.

And note how oh so many Palestinians conveniently ignore what happens on October 7th.

@juergen_hubert I think the question is not about being representative, it is about ability. Hamas is in charge in Gaza. Had it gotten the power to eradicate all Jews, it would have. So it needed to be dismantled.

@juergen_hubert Well, that is obviously commendable. But see, if the ruling organization of one side OPENLY DECLARES they want to GENOCIDE the other, understanding between some people from both sides isn't going to cut it.

I was just robbed for the first time in my life.

Next to a grocery store, two young men asked me if I could change €20 for them. I rummaged in my wallet, and one of the guys distracted me by rummaging in his wallet and discussing what kind of change he needed.

Then the other guy ripped all my banknotes out of my pocket, and they ran away. Since it was dark, I didn't notice any useful details. I reported this to the police, but don't expect to see those €300 again.

@juergen_hubert I am sorry, but... uh... those "covenant marriage" rules read just like regular marriage rules in Germany. You can have a divorce here only after a year of separation as well.

One of the creepier type of tale in old German folk tales is when beautiful women are punished for refusing the advances of all the men who try to court her.

Perhaps she has standards, or perhaps she just doesn't have any romantic interest in men in general. It matters not - the folk tale condemns her for being "prideful", and she gets punished for it.

In this particular tale from Styria, the woman is cursed by all the rejected suitors. This causes the Devil to appear in the guise of a huntsman, and he tells her:

"The curses of many men are upon you. Don't continue to act like this, but above all do not look back at me, for else you will turn to stone."

She is initially frightened, but curiosity overcomes her, she looks back, and is then turned to stone as promised.

Really, she did nothing wrong here! It was entirely up to her whether or not to reject the advances of would-be suitors, and the fault lies entirely with the men who cursed her.

Habe gerade in meiner Hausarzt-Praxis erfahren, daß sie mich nicht boostern dürfen, weil die letzte #COVID -Infektion weniger als ein Jahr her ist (Ende Februar).

Also bleibt es wohl doch dabei, einen Termin über eine Apotheke zu bekommen...

@juergen_hubert Die derzeit kursierenden Virusvarianten sollen insgesamt weniger hart sein, weil sie eher auf leichte Übertragbarkeit als auf Schwere der Infektion selektiert wurden. Bestehende Impfungen scheinen da auch für sehr milde Verläufe zu sorgen, auch wenn sie schon länger her sind.
