@HistoPol @jnye That's what the 1/4" hardware cloth is for. I also had to make a second gate lined with cloth, making sure there aren't any gaps anywhere around it larger than about 1/4 inch, and it is buried into the ground about 6 inches. There is a Phoenix-based business (they do rattlesnake removals and snake fence installation) that posts a lot of YouTube videos, one of them explains the requirements of a truly snake proof fence.

They showed why 1/2" hardware cloth isn't enough - even though a lot of people install it instead of the smaller mesh... they used a baby rattler, about 2 weeks old, to show how easily they squeeze through a half-inch hole.

What did your 15-year-old self imagine you'd be doing right now?

@dancinyogi On the outside - just surviving. On the inside - lots and lots of daydreaming. Dreaming of emigrating to the US probably started around that time, and I also dreamed a lot about having a horse. I didn't think any of it would ever become reality, I had no vision for a real future.

Introduction #2: the queen of the castle, Gaia. 8 years old, #GermanShepherd, bred by a long-time friend who trains and titles all her dogs in #Schutzhund (now called #IGP, it has become much more sport vs real breeding suitability testing). He talents are chasing/trying to catch water from the hose, donkey-herding and BARKING her head off 😜 Oh, and occupying my bed, couch, or, since we still live in an RV, taking over the dinette bench....

What a journey! From the big Bastrop Complex Fire in 2011, to rising from the ashes like a phoenix by starting all over from raw land to build my childhood dream: living on a farm with horses; 11 years later early retirement to start yet all over AGAIN from raw land in the high desert. Fled for our lives with 2 German Shepherds, 1 African Grey parrot, 1 horse and the human. Almost 13 years later, settled in AZ with 2 related German Shepherds, 2 horses, 2 mini donkeys and 1 parrot.
