I agree, but I unfortunately think that’s actually the perspective of anyone who chooses not to vote. Politics doesn’t happen once on one day. But if you haven’t done anything in 4 years the most impactful you’ll be is voting for the lesser of two evils once on election day.
Absolutely. I only tracked my calories for like two and a half months. A few years ago. Because of that I stopped buying nearly as much junk food, less sugary foods, less meat, switched to diet soda/flavored sparkling water etc. like oh my god, any food that involves a potato and oil has to be treated with the caution you’d give a moose.
For anyone trying to lose weight, a really good start is downloading a free calorie tracking app and track calories for just a few weeks. You don’t have to change your diet, don’t need to get on any plan or anything, just quantify what you’re putting into your body and you’ll develop a 5th sense at the grocery store for what kinds of things you need to limit.
Physics is just us categorizing the relationships between different observed phenomena. “Explanations” are fun, and many can be true at certain scales, but getting deeper into any specific phenomenon is just a rabbit hole that leads to more and more “we don’t know why it does that, it just does and it works in our models.”
Sorry, I see how my post could have read. I was agreeing with you. I just wanted to add on because I think it’s so cool that the only thing we’ve ever really been able to do with all our scientific progress and applied science is establish that when we see one thing happening we can be pretty sure that it usually leads to this other thing and we don’t really know why.
Are the posts on this sub based on any particular source? Some of the memes are just about current events but others seem to require extremely diverse, specific knowledge on the details of a bunch of different wars.
IDK if the original hypothesis is true or not. But it’s kind of impossible to make judgements on evolution based on anything we know about humans and society. Modern homo sapiens are only about 150,000 years old and were pretty sure any semblance of a modern hierarchical society didn’t begin until about 7,500 years ago, much less the concept of money which only happened another thousands of years later.
10,000 years is a drop in the bucket evolutionarily, hell, 100,000 years doesn’t even do much, so any theory of evolution or why a complex hormone like cortisol evolved to be used in the way it is now is way off base if you’re referencing concepts like “rich” and “poor” or reference to any form of societal structure made in the last 10,000 years.
Maybe, but we are losing a vast wealth of collected and archive information. Anything from resources for anyone who wanted to learn any hobby, places to go in cities for every niche interest you can think of, suggestions for what to do for various college situations tailored to every college in the US. The list could go on for a hundred more topics.
For a while it’s been the only place you could get Google results that you could be reasonably sure you were getting multiple unsponsored human opinions and discussions in a thread. It’s honestly tragic to lose that.
This poster started posting on Lemmy 2 days ago and has done nothing but post about voting in political instances. I mean, look at their name.
I agree that people should vote, it’s such a simple thing to do and takes 20 minutes out of 4 other years you should be spending a fraction of your time doing political action to take down our system.
