If you haven't already heard the news, Cumberland Council in Sydney's west has voted to ban books that feature same-sex parents from public libraries in their LGA.

I will be speaking more on this issue, but you can send a message to councilors via Equality Australia, asking them to rescind the motion.

In case anyone had forgotten, Vodafone are a deeply fucked up organisation

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni yea that is very standard. I think the SMS is literally telling you that is what is happening, but it is considered as approved if details match, account number or DOB in the case of prepaid.

Worth noting, I knew of instances when I was working at the big T, of numbers being ported frauduently. It does happen, and there is a process for clawing the port back.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni also, if you are a victim of number porting fraud, I am sorry :(

@luciedigitalni 100% is bs, and there is a way to dispute it. If they are refusing to help you, I would go to TIO.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni also, just to be super clear, when I said "I knew of", that is because I assisted a customer with disputing a port, and Telstra did have a process for it and had the number returned back to them.

vf is having a knowledge gap, or a flat out lying to you.

Biden tells Netanyahu that support of the Gaza war is dependent on Israel taking steps to address "civilian harm, humanitarian suffering, and the safety of aid workers" in Gaza.

This follows an incident where the IDF bombed humanitarian aid works travelling in a marked vehicle on an approved IDF route.

The #canberra Liberal's Woden Busway plan in place of LR Stage 2B is giving me the NBN Mixed Technology vibes.

I'm wondering if it was to go ahead, would we be returning in 5 to 10 years time to put in light rail anyway?

@Charles yep, my first thought was "hmmm, car people are going to hate the end result of this", cause there was no way there was going to be a bus only lane at that cost without taking away from car lanes.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@Charles oh whooops! I didn't even notice that one. Hahaha. Must be a bus for just one Canberran. While I like the idea of locally made fleet, I question how likely bus manufacturing in Canberra would actually be. Worth noting we get our fleet locally made in Australia anyway.

The researchers investigated the contributions of urban air pollution and ozone to biomarkers of neurodegeneration and found physical hallmarks of Alzheimer’s in 202 of the 203 brains they examined, from residents aged 11 months to 40 years old. “Alzheimer’s disease starting in the brainstem of young children and affecting 99.5% of young urbanites is a serious health crisis,” Calderón-Garcidueñas and her colleagues wrote.

The cyclist was heading towards the city, while the BMW was travelling westbound.

Acting Inspector Travis Mills said it appeared the BMW crossed onto the wrong side of the road and into the path of the cyclist "and as a result has collided with the cyclist".

"The information that we have from our investigation to date and information provided by witnesses is the cyclist was actually travelling lawfully upon the road," he said.

@sister_ratched I think the police said she was travelling lawfully, and the BMW was completely at fault, with excessive speed being a factor.

This is a response to the Canberra Times' weekly readers poll from the previous week.

The response suggest that if public transport was free, more people would be using it. But this is in contrast to the reasons people give for not using public transport. It is also worth noting that public transport is cheaper than private car ownership.

@luciedigitalni sure, but Canberra's problem to ridership isn't costs. It is frequencies of services.

We still have most of our bus network running on a 2 hour frequencies on weekends. It is about to move to 1 hour frequencies for Saturdays in the coming months.

LR in Canberra is killing it with boardings because the frequencies are at worst, 15 minutes. But it only services the inner north and parts of Gungahlin.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni yea for sure, but it isn't just about catching a bus into the city for Tugg residents either, it is even just using it locally.

Speaking as an ex-Chisholm resident, it is much easier to just use the car down there, compared to public transport and walking.

My mum still lives down there. I just drive to her. If I go somewhere else in Canberra, I tend to use a different mode.

Last time I tried to, I had to get off at Calwell and walk/scoot to Chisholm.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@sister_ratched @luciedigitalni yep, super excited about MyWay+ coming. It doesn't get talked about heaps, but the current ticketing in Canberra is leading to loss of fare revenue in Canberra when it comes to buses.

Unspoken policy of do not deny boarding on buses. This is why drivers just let people on for free. Access to ticketing is a problem in Canberra, and has been since MyWay launched.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@treleanor @luciedigitalni I was just about to start high school (or was in high school) when it was operating from memory. I remember seeing the ads as a kid for it, and thinking that it just seemed to be an extra hassle to call someone to request a bus. I still stand by that. I don't ever want to have to call up for a bus, and I don't think anyone else should have to either.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni @sister_ratched also, being millennial, I have a habit of leaving my wallet at home and want to be able to use my phone to validate instead. So selfishly, I want MyWay+ so I don't have to worry about my physical card anymore.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni @treleanor hey, if it was implemented with an app like that, then I would be more onboard. However, I would like it to operate later than what Auckland has currently.

CurbsideShip116,
@CurbsideShip116@mstdn.matthewmcgranahan.me avatar

@luciedigitalni @sister_ratched yea, I think they only need registration in certain circumstances, like discounted rates, which needs to be verified. Other than that, plan is to allow unregistered taps with VISA/MC. So same as Opal really.

I don't think I have ever done an , and since I've moved from Mastodon.au over to my own instance, I thought why not now.

I work in IT supporting small and medium size businesses across Australia.

I live in the inner north of love public transport, and I am part of Living Streets Canberra, which advocates for better walking infrastructure.

I do play video games, and am a huge fan of Sonic. I also take photos.

Regarding I am playing at the moment, I've really just been playing Cities Skyline as of late. I very easily loose a whole day to it. While I mention Sonic, I had started playing Frontiers when it came out, but haven't finished it. I ended up taking a big break, so I will probably pick it up again soon. I do also sometimes play Nintendo Switch.
