As a culture we need to get over with association of prestige for "cracking exams"

Exam toughness and periodic test-taking is not a marker of creative, inventive skillset needed to build original technology.

We need to get over this obsession of marks, ranks, exam toughness, percentages as symbolic to inventiveness in a profession/domain/research.

An exam based pedagogy don't teach you to invent and discover. Just recreate.

The fact that millions of people apply for an exam to gain access to education and only few hundred or thousand get the access will never cease to horrify me

I don't understand how in 21st century, post-internet people can still defend the notion of gatekeeping access to education via entrance exams

The way gatekeeping for access to education has been normalized and desensitised folks in accepting it as a way of life since centuries is astonishing

I have NOT read this paper yet so this is not a Cat endorsement yet but the title and premise is good enough to share 👀

@grimalkina How do you understand Intervention Scientists? Ethnographers are struggling to do just what you describe?

CIT,
@CIT@mastodon.social avatar

@grimalkina So does Intervention Scientists mean academically trained staff implementing programs? Not really doing research on the interventions themselves? Or both?

CIT,
@CIT@mastodon.social avatar

@grimalkina Thanks for the explanation. I agree and I’ m surprised that in your discipline there seems no debate about constructivist approaches. What subject did you study and on what epistemological grounds are these intervention methods based? If you have literature to share, please do. I appreciate your passion!

@grimalkina My impression about psychology at least here in Germany was, that there are mostly quantitative research methods funded and approaches to inter-subjectivity are avoided, to give the impression psychology would be a natural science not belonging to the humanities (which hardly get research funded).
