BurningnnTree,

I think this will only strengthen his core supporters because they’ll view him as a martyr. It might push away some people on the fence. But I think the martyrdom angle and the increased media spotlight could pull some people back in. Personally I think it probably won’t make a difference overall. All publicity is good publicity.

BurningnnTree,

Agreed. Also this law can’t even be enforced. Unless they’re just passing this law so that abused influencer children will have legal grounds to sue their parents. But we should be passing laws to prevent the abuse in the first place.

Dumb question: how do I know if an open source project is trustworthy?

Some background: I’m a software developer, and I’ve never really participated in the open source software community before. (i.e. I don’t contribute to open source projects, I don’t know anyone who does, and I don’t really know anything about the companies who start these projects to begin with, or what their...

BurningnnTree,

As long as this is opt-in and users understand the risks, then I don’t have a problem with it. I wouldn’t use it on my personal PC, but it would probably be handy for my work PC. (Although my organization would probably block the feature for security reasons. So maybe it’s not actually that useful after all.)

BurningnnTree,

So you’re saying instead of tacking “site:reddit.com” onto my Google search, I can now use ChatGPT to get the same information, except without the original context, and it will often be wrong? Amazing!

And this also means that companies will fill Reddit with fake comments promoting their brand to ensure that their brand gets mentioned in ChatGPT responses, right? Can’t wait!

BurningnnTree,

I’m not angry, but I’m tired of live service esports games. Also the last time Valve arrived late to a trend (Artifact) it didn’t turn out well.

BurningnnTree,

Valve’s game development division feels more like a weird cult than a proper game company. I don’t think they get “excited” for the things that most people get excited for. (Remember when they were excited for a virtual card game where you have to pay for every card?) The Valve of the 2000s is long gone IMO

BurningnnTree,

I don’t think Hellblade 2 is the kind of game that’s going to make a ton of money, at least not as much as major franchises on Playstation. It wouldn’t make sense to spend too much budget on marketing.

BurningnnTree,

I once tried an energy drink that had 300mg of caffeine, and I deeply regretted it. Apparently one of the people who died from Charged Lemonade drank three of them. Just imagining having that much caffeine is giving me heart palpitations

BurningnnTree,

If Microsoft shuts down Double Fine I’m going to riot

BurningnnTree,

damn I forgot about NFTs. That shit was funny

BurningnnTree,

Every time I do a coding test, I always overlook certain optimizations because I’m too stressed to think clearly. After the interview is done, I quickly realize what I did wrong. When this happens, I send a follow-up email where I tell the hiring manager that i made a mistake, and I provide my corrected code or explain what I should have done differently. I’ve landed two different jobs before by doing this. (One was a live coding test and the other was a take-home test.) So don’t be afraid to follow up with corrections, even if the deadline for the take-home test has passed.

BurningnnTree,

I can’t wait for lab grown meat to become widely available (in my state at least). I think it’s really cool. Being able to eat real meat without harming animals sounds so futuristic. It’s one piece of future technology that I can actually get behind.

Jeff Bridges’ Tron 3 Update Is A Much Bigger Deal Than I Thought (screenrant.com)

Jeff Bridges' addition to the Tron: Ares cast marks his first return to a feature film since 2018's Bad Times at the El Royale. The acclaimed actor has starred in nearly 100 different films and television series since he made his onscreen appearance in the classic television series Sea Hunt (1958 - 1961) alongside his father,...

BurningnnTree,

Since Daft Punk broke up they should get Justice to do the soundtrack

BurningnnTree,

They need to bring back the thing where you move the control stick left and right during drift to build up boost

I just learned an interesting piece of gaming history that most people might not know about. (Xbox Live Arcade on original Xbox)

I just learned that Xbox Live Arcade was a service that first started on the original Xbox, not Xbox 360. You had to order a disc online that would let you access the XBLA store. Here’s the wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Live_Arcade...

BurningnnTree,

I watch The Needle Drop on YouTube. He’s a music reviewer. I don’t necessarily agree with the idea of being so critical of an art form that’s so subjective, but following his channel is a great way to stay up to date on noteworthy new albums coming out.

BurningnnTree,

I ran into this issue while researching standing desks recently. There are very few places on the internet where you can find verifiably human-written comparisons between standing desk brands. Comments on Reddit all seem to be written by bots or people affiliated with the brands. Luckily I managed to find a YouTube reviewer who did some real comparisons.

BurningnnTree,

She said it “will only criminalise where you can prove a person created the image with the intention to cause distress”, and this could create loopholes in the law.

This sounds like it would be almost impossible to prove. Anyone can just say “I made the deepfake porn because it turns me on, and I shared it online because I thought other people would enjoy it too.” This law is a good start but I don’t think it goes far enough.

BurningnnTree,

I just recently saw Triangle. Definitely an under-appreciated movie. That one shot after she chases the girl to the top of the ship is S tier horror. Great ending too.

What all youtube channels can you recommend so that i don't fall behind on movies and series trailers ? (sh.itjust.works)

EDIT : I am using pipepipe which is a really good client for youtube without ads and bullshit but with added features like downloading anything, better search etc . Adding this because a comment told me the downvotes were because it feels like i’m seeking ads ....

BurningnnTree,

I just subscribe to Rotten Tomatoes Trailers
