    @AAKL @peterbutler @Reuters Well, I know there's those that don't want them to have data at all. But isn't there a large number that was just pissed cause they weren't paying for the content. Now they are.🤷‍♂️

    It seems like they are doing exactly what people were saying they wanted them to do and now are getting lambasted for it.

    There's always gonna be people against AI, it seems. No matter how the data is retrieved or used or if it's ethical or not.

    @AAKL @peterbutler @Reuters Oh. I was confused because even paying for an IP/copyrighted work doesn't "allow" you to use it in that way...🤷‍♂️so I assumed they were talking about paying for data in general.

    @damon Certain instances like to have certain topics be the main focus of the instance. Like mstdn.ca for Canadian folk or mstdn.games for gaming folk.

    Those who view them as communities, probably browse the local timeline a lot and interact with those people the most.🤷‍♂️

    Hey @MonaApp, is there a slight possibility we could get a "Hashtag Drawer" feature where you can save individual hashtags for easy re-use along with keeping the CamelCase, pretty please?😅

    The hashtag suggestions are great with this for the most part, but if there could just be a box of hashtags you could save without having to start typing each one in first. That'd be awesome!

    This is a question for those who have moved from #Threads as their primary social media microblogging site to a Mastodon (or other ActivityPub) instance.

    1. Why did you move from #Threads to a different platform, a Federated one?
    2. Did you know anything about Mastodon, or other Federated platforms, before Threads turned on Federation?
    3. How is the experience better, worse, the same compared to Threads?
    4. Are you maintaining dual accounts now or are you completely off Threads?
    5. Other thoughts on the topic?

    @Jerry Obviously I was here first and this is my main platform so a couple of these questions aren't relevant to me. But I feel comfortable answering a couple. Of course take it how you wish.

    1. The experience is different but similar in ways. Theres obviously an "algorithm", but it seems pretty "okay" for the most part. There's some corporate shenanigans like censoring that does happen for certain topics. One thing that's better on Threads, in my experience, is that a lot of people are open to new knowledge and understanding about certain things. There's lots of brigading here against things people don't understand.

    2. I am maintaining dual accounts because I want to advocate for people to turn on Fediverse sharing if they're able to.

    3. Other thoughts are: it's basically a "normie" vibe if that makes sense. WAY less fear, uncertainty, and doubt about the unknown and more accepting of change. People there are turned off by the extreme hatred of absolutely normal things here. Obviously they have their share of extremes as well, but there's an algorithm so you can avoid it if you want. Though I definitely wouldn't recommend it for the LGBTQIA+ community.

    Discovered the /api/v1/instance/peers endpoint tonight, it returns a list of all the server my mastodon instance has ever contacted.

    Running it today I see 9555 instances returned, which initially sounded quite large.

    But comparing it with mastodon.socials, 70118 peers, it really doesn't sound so large.

    But if that's correct I'm only really interacting with 13% of the fediverse. But who knows how representative mastodon.social is of the #fediverse

    @tim It's not representative at ALL.

    The issue is, there isn't a way to automatically clear dead domains from the database.

    Right now, there's only 20,000-25,000 instances live and there's no way to tell which ones out of the 70k plus .social has, that are dead or not or if they even are federating with 100% of live servers currently.

    Hmmm...wonder how long this has been a thing...if it's fairly new, I wonder if Threads is further along in their AP implementation than they're letting on...

    To be clear, I'm talking about how Fedi handles show up as links on Threads. They don't actually link to anything yet, but they do show up as links.🤔

    I HATE that Mastodon automatically adds previous mentions to replies. Like...why?!?

    Also, if you see this happening, why don't you remove the mentions before hitting send? Do you really think 30 people need a notification for your reply?!?!🤯

    Corporate social media sites are so dumb...Threads has a link section in the bio, where I naturally link to my Fedi profile. But, of course Meta tries to add a tracking tag to the url, which I assume tries to link up with user agents and cookies from sites.

    Fedi doesn't have that, so clicking the link on my Threads page fails....🤦‍♂️

    Funny, cause their tactics didn't work and maddening at the same time.
