I put together a quick #embedded project this weekend using #zephyr RTOS - and now I can send button events over #BLE to my #HomeAssistant instance!

Code is here for those interested, and should work on most boards supported by Zephyr:

The speaker just said: "...Mediatek heled us (NXP), because until then we were the only ones using ARM, and when they jumped in we could discuss ARM-specific problems with them."

This is what a healthy open source.project.looks like 👍

As I did since 2008 every year I will do the mentoring organization application at the 20th edition of the #GSoC #GSoC2024 for the #linuxfoundation again. Many workgroups of it, as #OpenPrinting, #Zephyr, #kworkflow (#kernel workflow), #uptane, #AGL (#Automotive Grade Linux), and many more are participating.

More info and project ideas lists here:

https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/gsoc/google-summer-code-2024

Results of organization applications will be published on Feb 21, 2024.

Our Technical Director @raptor has just published a new article on the @hnsec blog: “OST2, Zephyr RTOS, and a bunch of CVEs”.

The article describes many that we have identified in the real-time operating system.

My research work on the RTOS is finally public on the @hnsec blog! 🚀

What better way to celebrate 20 years since my first CVE than with a bunch of brand new CVEs? 😉

Thanks to the @OpenSecurityTraining2 project for inspiring me to pursue this challenge. Cheers 🥂

Building a remote water level readout for my irrigation tank using one of those chonky sewage/~industrial tank sensors and the accuracy is impressive. Paired with a good ADC I get rock solid mm level accuracy. That would give me about 150ml volume resolution.

3.5.0 is out with a bunch of fixes related to that I’ve reported in the past months! Expect more details on the @hnsec blog in a few days.

Have you ever used Zephyr (OS) in an electronics project, e.g. with an Raspberry Pi Pico?

https://www.zephyrproject.org/

We're curious which problem it solved for you. Did it help with multitasking / scheduling? Or with HW drivers? File systems?

Let us know in the comments! 🙂

At ZERO GmbH we haven't used Zephyr yet, but we'd like to look at it in detail and try it out once we have a use case for it in a project.

@zeroiee Not with a Pico, but we’ve used it with an NRF chip before.

Key argument for using was Bluetooth support, which worked great on the NRF chip we used. That plus loads of great SW like encrypted and signed OTA updates made for a good developer experience and fast development speed.

MrGreensWorkshop,

@zeroiee I've used it in some of my projects. If you have a Linux background and need , I think it's the way to go. I also made some videos about how to start with Pico.

Okay so I now only have one full day before my actual vacation! I'll be likely posting less from Friday since I'm heading off to Asia for two weeks with my wife and I'll mostly be touristing around.

While I do that, though, I still hope that you'll be adding to the funds for Diabetes UK: https://tiltify.com/@flameeyes/gone-with-the-wind
I might even start ordering the hardware while I'm on the trip if we reach the right milestones!

The littlest bringup. I now can interpret the PDO_SEL from the UPD301C devkit (EV11L78A) in @zephyr .

This is not particularly useful right now, but given how this is the first time I approach Zephyr, I'm happy to have gotten to this simple step as it is.

This is what I'm talking about doing as part of my Diabetes UK donation drive: https://flameeyes.blog/2023/08/02/gone-with-the-wind-donation-drive-for-diabetes-uk/
