@TheConversationUS straight from the 'On the other hand' section:
"At the same time, the Biden administration continued working behind the scenes to pressure rail companies to grant the workers their demands, and they largely did. Union leaders credit Biden for helping them get this victory for their workers."
#Algorithms are generally bad, esp. for workers, but good for corporations:
Variable pricing (surge pricing) has a much more insidious effect on workers than on consumers. When a worker is selling their labor… it's about their ability to survive.
Hospitals have begun using apps to allocate tasks based on⬆️sophisticated calculations of how workers move thru space & time -fastest nurse -not necessarily the best at sanitation or skill.
A #union representing thousands of workers at #SamsungElectronics has called the first strike at the South Korean technology giant since it was founded five and a half decades ago.
@pkw Back in the 1960's there was a dream of a worker/student alliance. With the UAW at UCLA and with the Ontario Federation of Labour at the University of Toronto, we have one.
#Malaysia has become a hotspot for global #electronics & #semiconductor investment, with country's electrical & electronics export seeing a sharp increase of 54.2%. However, the surge of electronics & semiconductor investment in Malaysia is sharply contrasted with low #unionization; only 6% of all #Malaysian#workers are #unionized, the majority in the public sector.
Students are making history. All of us should join them

Apple workers are striking at a store in Maryland by Millie Giles 5/13/24
"...In the aftermath of its outrage-inducing object-crushing advert, Apple has been dealt another PR blow, as it faces its first retail employee strike in history.
...While Apple is currently in the firing line for its employee practices, with labor unions like the Communications Workers of America accusing the tech giant of union-busting, collective strike action has been gaining traction across the US more widely..."
"We find experienced employees impacted by these policies at major tech companies seek work elsewhere, taking some of the most valuable human capital investments and tools of productivity with them."
Are we heading into another wave of the "great resignation"?
"Nearly half (46%) of professionals say they’re considering quitting in the year ahead — higher than the 40% who said the same ahead of 2021′s great resignation, according to new research from Microsoft and LinkedIn [...]"
"This work to maximize oil production with our technology is negating all of our good work, extending the age of fossil fuels, and enabling untold emissions."
@stefan Big companies want to take credit for "carbon reduction" when they fund/work with reforesting and other capture initiatives, but they don't take (or get assigned blame) for the opposite: the carbon impact they create by making deals with the fossil fuel industry.
And the entire actual left shrugs its shoulders, because what else was anyone expecting at this point?
I really hope she goes through with her threat to withhold funding.
Please, please, for fuck's sake - don't vote Labour.
