Okay, I hate Windows 11.

How bad of an idea is it to downgrade to Windows 8.1?

After dealing with pre-installed malware on this mini-PC, I'm FINALLY done reviewing the hardware!

"Besides the malware" does an Intel Core i9 make sense in a system like this?

I can't get over how insufferable Windows 11 is for creating things. Win11 stops taking pen input--not freeze. Pen input just stops, and this is with an official Microsoft pen. Drawing art in Krita is a game of red-light-green-light.

Darkradiant doesn't update the 3D window. No lighting preview. :/

I just took delivery of a laptop that came with 11.

After going through setup I felt abused and violated.

Then, doing anything on this top of the range machine was slow, and despite my answering 'privacy' to every option, it appears that every click in Edge is being sent back to Microsoft, slowing the fastest machine I've ever used.

Having installed Ubuntu 24 side by side makes this even more apparent. (I still want for testing).

I pity those who have to use it.

Get out!

The #Windows11 Task Bar is such garbage. I plugged in a second monitor and was wondering if there was a way to get my pinned apps to appear on the secondary Task Bar.

...Toggled an unrelated setting off and back on while poking around Settings, and boom they all suddenly appeared.

I wanted to give it an honest go, but given that this is clearly an amateur knockoff of the much superior Task Bar from previous Windows releases, I may as well look at third-party options lol.

my Windows 10 taskbar vs the Windows 11 24H2 taskbar... I hate this so much that it's unhealthy. They have removed all the hacks that allow you to make it smaller (other than paid apps like Start11)

Folks that use #Windows11 -- why would my taskbar keep moving from "center" orientation to "left" orientation on its own? I set it to "center" and every once in a while it just moves to the left on its own. I can't find a pattern to the timing. Any thoughts?

Once more, it is a good time to be a Linux users.

Why, you ask?

Microsoft has pushed out an update that breaks VPN access in Windows 10 and 11. This after the fact that we all learned Windows 11 will have ads, plus Microsoft may try to shame users with a watermark for those who do not accept their recommended settings or use their latest recommend hardware.

I work, take calls, bank, stream movies, stream music, edit documents, photos, videos, print, game, shop, and I do so ad free, watermark free, activation free, while safely and securely using an optional VPN, and I do this all on Linux (Ultramarine Linux, KDE spin).

Hi @JenMsft I just wanted to let you know that in Flight Hub, clicking on the entry for build 26100 is loading the page for build 26090 instead. Are you also able to reproduce this? Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to any input you may have. Thanks.

I still get a LOT of comments, from people who don't really want to learn about current ARM offerings, but like to speculate and complain about what ARM PCs can't do.

Before we start getting X Elite hardware, here's what older ARM PCs can do with SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful chips! It's a LOT more than you think...

It is once again a good day to be a Linux user. -- Why?

Microsoft is now going to punish people with watermarks if your system does not 100% meet their system requirements, even after you paid for your copy of Windows. -- Trying to shame you to either buy their recommended hardware and accept their recommended settings.

Those who update to the latest current production (22631.3447) will get an added bonus. In-place repair install (IPRI) is now built into Settings > System > Recovery. Good stuff!!! https://www.edtittel.com/blog/ipri-hits-production-windows-11.html

The article says you can disable them, but a better way, would be to just get rid of windows full stop, by erasing it with your choice of Linux distro

  • Honestly, Microsoft have got some neck, putting ads on the computer you own.

Alrighty... So with Windows 11 rolling out ads to the start menu I am going to start looking for a Linux daily driver. I have been eyeing Mint but does anyone have any recommendations?

Specific things I am looking for:
-Gaming (Nividia GPU)
-Not "fiddly" - I just want it to work.

Microsoft is adding new “recommendations” to your Start Menu. Basically, we’re getting more ads in Windows 11. Thankfully it’s pretty easy to disable this new “feature” in your settings.
