Done with Day 42 of #100DaysOfCode#webdev and learned a lot of new stuff about #JavaScript. Updating fields is a lot of fun, but I did not expect it to require so much code. Sometimes when I browse the web, I am dumbfounded by the things I come across that I never really thought about. This course will make me more grateful for all the nice websites I visit every day. https://media.giphy.com/media/CTX0ivSQbI78A/giphy.gif
Hey all. Thanks for the welcome. New to Mastodon, working to understand the #fediverse

"I wrote an article in 2007 called Fieldsets, Legends and Screen Readers. It was my first post on the TPGi blog. I have been meaning to provide an update to it, for the last 15 years…"
Having my daily “what if I just scrapped everything and rewrote it all” moment.
Though, thankfully, this time it’s not because I’m working on some god awful code full of technical debt, I’m working on my own website. 😎 (I hope my sarcasm is being conveyed by that emoji)
Does anyone else constantly have this feeling? How do you convince yourself not to do it?
I’m sure I've heard a statistic about how it’s almost always more time consuming and more effort to start over, right?
Just switched to #safari (from #firefox) for my #webdev work, primarily because it supports subgrid (unlike #chrome) and will display grid overlays for grids defined in shadowDOM (unlike #firefox which just says "CSS grid is not in use on this page") thank you @jensimmons 🙏
I couldn't find an offline browser based text editor so i made one myself! Its pretty bare bones and requires you to manually unregister the service worker but it works! (I'll try to make it so you dont have to eventually)
Implementing web push API seems kinda more complicated than I thought 😅 I don't even remember handling so much when implementing push notifications on React Native.
Does anyone know any great self-pace #courses on #accessibily for #frontend and #web development? I'd like to get better at it, especially in light of upcoming regulations in the #EU.
Great question in the @glitchdotcom community forum: What skills do software developers have beyond writing code?
To me, it's mainly about the ability to step back and evaluate how your decisions and your behavior affects the world around you, through empathy.
And you really have to be empathetic to yourself as well; know the value of your time. Opt in for simpler, more straightforward solutions. Ask for help when you need it.
#WebDev people, please don’t use #accessibility overlays when making your site. They create more problems than they solve for people with disabilities and they’re not enough for #WCAG compliance. Accessibility can’t and shouldn’t be automated, you should actually care, solve it at the source and listen. Here’s why: https://overlayfactsheet.com/#what-is-a-web-accessibility-overlay
