The last canoe piece I created for The Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle. Yes, they licensed A LOT from me! I am so thankful to be chosen to work with so many great organizations. :)
Re-introduction: I’ve just transferred to @sunny.garden, a friendly, smaller server intended for artists, musicians, makers and such. I’m hoping my followers are forwarded, as is supposed to happen, and that those I’m connected with the interesting bunch of folks I’ve met. If there are any new who stumble across this, I play #bluegrass#banjo, #countryblues#guitar, and dabble in #watercolors and a bit of #landscape#photography.
Time to fill again the mini palette. Easy for the most part except for the dried up paints. They still work fine , just not sure if there is an easier way to revive them so I can transfer them. I made a mess , especially with the cadmium red...
Anyone have any suggestions?
Swatched out every single one, which was interesting. #Watercolors are tough to capture with a small swatch of color as there are so many different factors involved. Obviously how much water you use - some are the most vibrant/saturated with minimal water, while others are - confusingly - more vibrant when you use more water. And the colors shift when they dry to get lighter or darker or sometimes they can look stunningly vibrant when you paint them out only to dry to a duller finish. My DaVinci paints are terrible for this but oh they're so pretty when you first paint them on!
Some are granulating which can give more interest/texture to a painting, but that can look defective in a swatch. Some, like QOR, have amazing flow in water - these ones didn’t look like anything special in the swatches but on the right paper are amazing.
So many things. I'm endlessly fascinated with #watercolor.
I've got an #artsupply question which is really hard to answer with information from web pages etc.: How do you prepare your nibs beyond getting rid of the conservant oil or similar coating?
Do you sand them? Adjust the angles with a whetstone?
What is your personal procedure to get from stock nib to favourite "your" nib?
Please boost for coverage. Looking fwd to your answers 🖤
Here is a picture of two dragons bringing up the rear of the dragon parade in Missouri Botanical Gardens Chinese festival and two watercolor pictures I bought. The shih-Tzu is for my mother-in-law, she's on her 8th one.
Every once in a while, I get a visit from a hummingbird, it looks at me and laughs and then it leaves. 😞 I've tried all kinds of things, and nothing seems to keep them around. I think they're just migrating and passing through for a visit.
Now that I have been here a week or so, I thought I would provide a more detailed #introduction
