For users of any operating system, not just #Linux, what might keep you from trying/running an #immutable#Fedora desktop? If you are already running one, why did you choose it?
It always defaults to OS Tree 0 upon reboot. That means all the updates likely on OS Tree 1 are not used, because you would need to manually select it on Grub
This is a problem if you are using a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. Why?
Because until your OS loads, your keyboard does not work. You would need a 2nd keyboard, either physically wired or an older USB wireless, to select OS Tree 1
I've been playing with ublue's isogenerator to see if I can boot a VM off the custom ISO I make out of my startpoint repo at https://github.com/tunix/penguix and finally succeeded. But when I try to boot from it, the download simply never finishes and I can't understand whether it's stalled or something is wrong. 😞 #linux#fedora#silverblue#ublue
Do you wish you could run #Linux on an ASUS ROG or whatever your current #gaming rig is, but not sure where to start? Then check out #Bazzite! It is an #immutable Linux distro based on #Fedora Atomic from the #UBlue group so you can focus more on gaming and less on being a sys admin for your gaming gear!
Been curious about what it's like to use Bluefin? Here's a quick tour of it, walking through some of the main changes we make to Silverblue! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_yyyUMecwo
For more stability, the Bluefin custom image defaults to GTS (grand touring support), meaning that we hang back one release of Fedora. It brings stability in general, but specifically to all the GNOME extensions we use.
Bazzite and Bluefin will now show a Message of the Day when you open the terminal! This is to share tips and tricks to get you more familiar with your system, especially if it's your first time using a uBlue or Fedora Atomic image.
Can be toggled off and on with ujust toggle-user-motd
Tooted about a #Fedora issue yesterday, in which I couldn't install it at all. I now have, ahem, "screenshots" so hopefully someone smarter than I can point me in the right direction.
I am booting from a 16GB SanDisk Cruzer Blade.
On UEFI, I get a message to say the image is invalid / unsupported.
On BIOS, the installer starts (after a successful self-test) but immediately crashes with a big, scary Python error.
Universal Blue is generally available today! We're out of beta and ready to showcase everything a Linux desktop can be. Our work has been to show how many problems in client Linux are already solved from the cloud native world. We hope you'll join us on this journey!
I took the time to make my #Fedora#Silverblue image using #uBlue, it turned out really well! I've removed the packages and stuff I don't use, and maybe another day I'll automate some more stuff.
Part of me is tempted to use #UBlue to make a custom #Fedora#Silverblue image to add in the Pop_OS Gnome extensions, make #vim the default editor, and #Thunderbird the default mail reader and call it "Blue Bacon Linux"
I wasn't originally planning to do much UI tweaking in Zeliblue, but I decided to change the default font in Zeliblue over to Inter. I'd thought about doing so before, but I saw recently that Inter is being considered as the default font for GNOME, so I figured I'd go ahead and do it now
It is a subtle change at a glance, but I think it looks good
First and third pics are using the current GNOME default, Cantarell
Second and forth are using Inter
Homebrew is now installed for you with the latest images of Bluefin, Aurora, and Bazzite. We don't have to strongly recommend installing it anymore because it's right there!
Homebrew is a great package manager especially for CLI apps. Give it a whirl if you haven't already.
Yesterday at Red Hat Summit @jorge and @cgwalters presented to a full house of Red Hat employees to walk through the state of atomic / image-based Linux and where we can go from here.
Fedora and Red Hat are looking at what we're doing with bootable containers and are interested in carrying that forward!
