Hey, @Tutanota, could we have custom time periods for event reminders, please? :mastoinnocent:
I'd really love to get a reminder exactly 2.5 hours before an event, but currently, I can only choose between 30 minutes, 1 hour and 1 day. Also, the earliest reminder is 1 week before the event, so there's no way to have #Tutanota remind me a couple weeks before someone's birthday to buy a present… :mastosob:
Allowing a custom number before the noun shouldn't be too hard, I think ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Out of all the companies currently offering private email alternatives to Big Tech, ProtonMail, Tutanota and ZohoMail stand out from the crowd. Let's take a look at what each of them does! https://tutanota.com/blog/best-private-email-service
@Tutanota I tried #tutanota and others a while back, but couldn't use it with my old iki.fi forwarding address. I'd want to keep using it, as I've used the same address for 20 years. Is it nowadays possible to keep such "external" sender/reply address?
@filippodb avete mai valutato tra i vari servizi l'email? (forse è il più delicato di tutti) come per esempio questo #Riseup (che in verità devo ancora provare) ma vedo che tutti usano lo stesso front-end ormai: https://riseup.net/en/email
@skye that's what i'm using it for, i've just seen it work better than my own little nextcloud experiment i'm #selfhost ing locally so i thought i'd mention it lmao
i'm needing to migrate my own big chunk of data (50gb worth) off of google cloud, still, hoping to see if #tutanota has a neat offering in the future
So Tutanota is working on a post-quantum secure storage offering.
While they have some serious backing in this endeavor, and i applaud their work towards this goal...
They are apparently using the logic that doubly encrypting data with a hybrid approach, using current sound cryptographic methods alongside new post-quantum methods means it's going to be secure regardless in the event that the new methods fail.
The entire reason we need post-quantum cryptography that is sound is because the old methods we use now will not be any longer.
So how exactly does encrypting data with something you know then isn't going to be secure in conjunction with a new method, going to make the new method more secure if and when it fails?
This is some really messed up logic and i'm surprised i'm reading this.
It's like having two locks on your door. The person you are trying to keep out already has the key to one lock. The other lock might be something they can pick. Having two locks isn't useful because one lock is already going to be defeated easily.
The only thing i can consider is that it slows down the time for someone to get in but doesn't prevent it.
@calculsoberic@louis VPN, Encrypted emailservices like #Protonmail and #Tutanota, encrypted messengers like #Threema and #Signal , alternative search engines like #searx.org and #duckduckgo. Using privacy oriented browsers like #Brave and hardened #Firefox like #LibreWolf and so on. There's a lot you can do to withold your personal data. Don't ever believe it's useless or a ran course. There are always things you can do to give away as less info as possible. Don't give in!
#Quant is also on my radar, along with #Mojeek, #Swisscows, and #StartPage. My money is on the Germans, though. I’d rather bet on a nonprofit, plus I’m already using a German email system (#Tutanota) and love it.
Yesterday I moved my personal #email to #tutanota (after #selfhosting it for a few months). Such a smooth experience. Everything just works ™️. Not that I had any problems with my VPS and #mailinabox. Just decided I want more peace of mind. Plus it's way cheaper. 12 EUR per year? C'mon, I couldn't ask for a better offer 🤩
I like #Tutanota (@Tutanota) a lot, but 3 main problems: not being able to use other mail clients. Not being able to search easily in your mails. Not being able to send encrypted mails (using PGP keys for example) to people who don't have Tutanota, in my case, all my contacts.
If the last two problems were solved, there would be no need to be able to use another client, which we cannot do anyway at the moment.
