Bing’s API is down, taking Microsoft Copilot, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT’s web search feature down too

"In this particular case, it’s interesting to see the increasingly important role of Bing’s API. While Google still dominates when it comes to web search, many services are now reliant on Bing’s API."

Relying on one company doesn't seem like a smart idea.

"A global outage is affecting a variety of Microsoft services, including its Bing search engine and Copilot AI tool.

Users turned to social media on Thursday to complain about the outage, which is also impacting third parties, including the search engine DuckDuckGo, which relies on Microsoft’s infrastructure."

I am amused. One the one hand, Microsoft is introducing Recall, which literally takes screenshots of everything you do on windows, but on the other hand, they are taking users ability to take screenshots of their browser away if their company configures it as such.

There’s a lot more junk floating around Earth than there used to be - by Tom Jones & David Crowther 5/17/24

"...Those stats may pickup in the coming years though, as the ESA tracks the ever-growing number of man-made objects that clutter the space around Earth. At the end of last year, a staggering 36,500 space debris objects over 10 cm in length were orbiting the Earth — perhaps little shock to anyone familiar with the Kessler Syndrome, a concerning theory that the more space junk there is, the more collisions there will be, causing a self-perpetuating chain reaction that could result in Earth’s orbit becoming essentially unusable..."
