#AI#GenerativeAI#Search#Perplexity#Plagiarism#Journalism#Media#News: "AI-powered search startup Perplexity appears to be plagiarizing journalists’ work through its newly launched feature, Perplexity Pages, which lets people curate content on a particular topic. Multiple posts that have been “curated” by the Perplexity team on its platform are strikingly similar to original stories from multiple publications, including Forbes, CNBC and Bloomberg. The posts, which have already gathered tens of thousands of views, do not mention the publications by name in the article text — the only attributions are small, easy-to-miss logos that link out to them.
For instance, a Perplexity aggregation of Forbes’ exclusive reporting on Eric Schmidt’s stealth drone project contains several fragments that appear to have been lifted, including a custom illustration. Over the past several months, Forbes has broken a series of stories on the former Google CEO’s secretive efforts to develop AI-guided aircraft for the battlefield, and this week reported that Schmidt had poached talent from SpaceX, Apple and Google, and has been testing his drones in the wealthy Silicon Valley town of Menlo Park." https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahemerson/2024/06/07/buzzy-ai-search-engine-perplexity-is-directly-ripping-off-content-from-news-outlets/
Interesting local / #private#AI#search in-progress project worth watching: Perplexica. Aims to be similar to #Perplexity but has a ways to go yet. Works with #Ollama, which is what I’m using on #Linux to test local AI.
So #Discord says it's going to start running ads even though it said it wasn't going to.
And #Perplexity said it's going to start running ads even though it said it wasn't going to.
Who is next in line?
#Perplexity#AI#GoogleGemini
Run a podcast? If you provide news recaps, then it could be hard to keep up with tech like this -> AI-powered search engine Perplexity launches an AI-generated daily news podcast
"The podcast, featuring episodes of no more than 4 minutes in length, feels like the perfect flex for a company eager to show off its increasingly robust AI prowess. The news summaries are read by a synthetic yet pleasant voice reminiscent of a BBC host."
Apologies for mentioning this app again, perplexity.ai, but I just think it is so damn good. I am also getting increasingly impressed by #Microsoft’s Copilot feature. There is something endearing about the way it leads you through research. #Perplexity though is the thing. Quite accessible on both #iOS and #MacOS#accessibility
In light of Elon's claim that AI has brought his platform to its knees this weekend reading #Twitter data for training purposes, I asked #Bard, #ChatGPT, #Perplexity.ai, and Bing Chat if they use Twitter data for training. Here are the results:
Bard:
"No, I do not use Twitter for training."
Perplexity.ai:
"I do not use Twitter for training."
Bing Chat:
"I couldn’t find any information that suggests Bing Chat uses Twitter data for training purposes."
ChatGPT didn't know. But, Bing Chat uses ChatGPT
So, Elon's treasure trove of user data doesn't seem to be of a quality that people want to train AI with and his claims of massive "data scrapping" to train AIs appear probably to be made up to deflect from infrastructure insufficiency due to mismanagement.
It would also seem to be that his data is financially less valuable than he assumed.
For those not using it yet, I highly recommend @perplexity_ai, on Twitter especially as a starting point when exploring a new subject. No phone number or login needed (yet). Sources mentioned. https://www.perplexity.ai/
