What basis exactly, are they using to prioritize the sweeping, or is this section waiting on the protected sweeper because only a small part of it is protected? Are there other parts of town with essential #pdxBikes connections still left like this?
'New to #Portland' bike ride Friday 12-1:30p under the east end of Tilikum Crossing, mellow 8 mile loop along the river led by city #transportation bureau staff. #pdxBikes#bikeTooter
Join @bikeloudpdx for Hack Night next Thursday Feb 8th at 7pm #pdxBikes#OpenStreetMap#opendata a look at the street sweeper map, and can we predict when storm drains will clog next.
According to PBOT's press release, the #pdxBikes detour through these broadway bike lane work zones will be a world-class #WorkzoneFTW instead of their usual "bikes merge with autos" or whatever sort of "share the road" sign fully blocking the bikeway. ICYMI, this was the pivot after the scandal where they were going to completely revert the protected bike lane with no public process, to placate hoteliers and get mingus a mayoral endorsement, happy donors etc.
Well, it took less than 20 miles of biking after the ice storm to get a flat because of the sharp gravel (basically tiny daggers) that was dispersed in an effort to make driving more possible during the ice storm. The streets are largely clear of it now but it’s hazardously piled in the painted cycling gutters and separated lanes.
Watch for the BikeLoud sweeper in your neighborhood! Volunteers are cleaning up the bike lanes before you get any more flat tires. PBOT needs 2-3 weeks to get a sweeper to every bike lane and many protected bike lanes are difficult for most of their equipment.
#PBOT can't clean many of these lanes during the day with big sweepers that would get stuck in #pdxTraffic! Sweepers on #pdxBikes can be out here taking the edge off of it every day and make a safer ride for everyone in #Portland.
PBOT working overtime to clear five car lanes by piling the snow and cut wood in the bike lanes is peak #climateDenial#CarSupremacy just keep serving up half of GHG emissions #GlobalWarming and wonder why people won't get out of their cars. #pdxBikes#Portland#pdxtst
LoL someone #pdxBikes, who wasn't me, was trying to talk @jonathan_maus into leaving xitter. It's not just that you're in a room full of nazis, it's that you're also not in the place with all of the people who refuse to be in a room full of nazis.
from Maddy at The Street Trust; "Bundle up and join us online Thursday for an evening (at 6pm) edition of our Winter Biking Clinic. We'll cover laws, skills, gear, route planning, and basic maintenance for biking when it’s very cold, and through snow and ice." #pdxBikes#BikeTooter#Portland
The Bike Fun iOS app is officially out so go download it now! It’s totally free, no ads or trackers, and is the best way to view the Shift2Bikes calendar on an iPhone, iPad or Mac!
I hope you enjoy using it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it, and I’ve got more features on the way so stay tuned.
If PBOT did car lane protection like they do #pdxBikes lane protection, guardrails would be added a couple years after they open the street to traffic.
Chilly but fun group ride this morning! If you’re newer to biking, I really recommend giving a casual group ride a try. I never would have thought I would enjoy biking in a group, but I really do! Ask around (local bike shops, other cyclists) to see what might a good fit for your interests in your community. #BikeTooter
@kimu the shift2bikes.org calendar got started for #pdxBikes pedalpalooza but has regular weekly rides and special events posted all year round. Slow roll or faster club rides, it's a great resource and every community could use something like that.
Join me at @bikeloudpdx Hack Night online Thursday Jan 11th at 7pm for a presentation on a #pdxBikes / #pdxTraffic speed+count monitoring device development, and discussion of our other #tech and #OpenData projects. #Portland
