Today Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou would have turned 100. Unfortunately she died this past March.
She’s an Ethiopian nun who played beautiful, haunting, complex piano music. She recorded 16 pieces but wrote hundreds. I really wish there were more because I can’t get enough.
Happy birthday, Emahoy. Thank you for blessing us with your delightful music.
Death comes for a #nun - who is that player accompanying her prayers? - and for the abbess, grabbing her by the scapular, but at least she's instantly mourned (Rijksmuseum, 1530s) #nuntastic#halloween
Æþelðryþe, daughter of #King Anna, was married twice & twice bargained with her husbands to remain chaste.
She managed to become a #nun & the picture of healthy living. She ate only one meal a day & bathed only cold. She did make exceptions for both on holidays.
When she got a swelling on her neck, she laughed that it was punishment for wearing too many necklaces in her youth.
