Hundreds of people dressed in black have raised their right arms in the air at a neo-fascist gathering in Rome & showed the fascist salute. These are not pictures of a march from the times of Italian dictator Mussolini - no, this is a gathering in the Italian capital Rome last Sunday. The gesture is known as the Roman greeting in Italy & is shown repeatedly at neo-fascist gatherings despite bans.
Despite the world’s best efforts, neo-fascism is on the rise. It’s since evolved in the age of the internet and major social media platforms have been more than happy to oblige them for the right price.

This is really turning into a global faacist action to suffocate all the voices that are standing up against the genocidal actions of Israel.
"Why is the US far right finding its savior in Spanish dictator Francisco Franco?" by Jason Wilson (#TheGuardian)
"Some US far-right figures have made renewed attempts to rehabilitate the 20th century Spanish dictator Gen Francisco Franco in recent months, praising him as an avatar of religious authoritarianism, and praising his actions during and after the Spanish civil war as a model for confronting the left in the US."
"The critics of this flurry of neo-Francoism say that the real target of this revisionism is domestic attitudes to US democracy."
"For Faber, parts of the the American right are captured by “the dream of order, where social order is more important than democracy, and democracy is a threat to social order”."
A very interesting article on the "re-emergence" of Franco in Spain: "Francisco Franco Is Back: The Contested Reemergence of a Fascist Moral Exemplar" by Francisco Ferrándiz (#OpenAccess, 2021).
It's near impossible to stop a slide into overt #neofascism on one hand, when #liberals across the rich world keep doing so much themselves to limit freedoms, concentrate wealth and power, and roll back #democracy. We need to reinvigorate street politics.
I know there was a knife attack. Best I can tell the guy who allegedly did it has not been identified.
Also, the riots that followed look a helluva lot like #neofascist efforts.
"Ireland’s Justice Minister Helen McEntee described the protesters as “thugs” and “criminals” who were “using this appalling attack to sow division and wreak havoc in the city.”"
#neofascism tends to differ from #fascism by being Transnational more than nationalism. The unifying factor isn't a certain group of people in the "fatherland" country --it's white "Christians" and sometimes pagans who see Europe as a white bloc. Or whiteness in general as a bloc.
The rioters therefore don't love Ireland. They love whiteness. The identity that drives them is their racism--even over nationality.
Why are we still pretending we’re going to stay below 1.5C? This article feels criminally misleading.
“The prospects of the world staying within the 1.5C limit on global heating have brightened owing to the “staggering” growth of renewable energy and green investment in the past two years”
We’re already periodically hitting 1.5C this year, so how long do we actually have to reduce emissions in order to stay under 1.5C?
It's a collective self-suggestion that this problem will miraculously go away by most of the world who still believes the dream of capitalism.
Of course we won't stay below 1.5 or even 2°C. We'll be lucky if we manage to stay below +4°C by the end of this century, if we keep going at the current rate.
But, in order to drastically increase the chances to keep the temperature gain as low as possible, the societies of all countries, and especially those of the rich, industrialized countries, would need to make drastic cuts in their way of living. Ever growing economies which waste as many resources as they want, would need to be shut down altogether.
And this is something most people in the richer countries and even the developing countries aren't willing to do. After all, you only have a lot to lose, if you own a lot.
But if you know that something is bad, but don't want to change it out of illogical reasons, then you have to trick yourself with nonsense.
And that is what we see today. Some people deny climate change, some relativize it, and some are simply indifferent to it all because they believe it won't affect them anymore anyway. #Neofascism as it's been gaining traction in many countries is just one of those symptoms.
Super secretive, ultra wealthy/conservative, anti-union, climate change denial, subversive funder of neoliberal think tanks, agendae. As dangerous as Leonard Leo; good to see more coverage, unveiling of Koch's influence.
