Jour 12 - Day 12
Fierté personnelle - Personal pride

Je suis extrêmement fier d'avoir eu cette batteuse comme mère. Elle est décédée hier en demandant l'aide médicale à mourir. Elle a repoussée cette option jusqu'à la réalisation qu'il n'y avait plus d'avenir sensé possible - I am extremely proud to have had this fighter as a . She died yesterday after demanding . She pushed back this option until the realisation that there was no sensible alternative.

Quadriplegic Quebec man chooses assisted dying after 4-day ER stay leaves horrific bedsore | CBC News https://ap236.com/72y9MJ @cdnpoli

This is a horrific story but a pretty good indicator of the state of Canada’s once-vaunted healthcare system.

This quadriplegic gentlemen goes to the hospital after his third respiratory infection in three months. (#CovidIsNotOver )

They put him on a stretcher for four days! He develops a large bedsore that will take months to heal, if it ever does - muscle and bone were exposed.

He elects for Medical Assistance in Dying. #MAID

Premier Ford just raised your energy bills far more than the carbon tax.

families will be paying $600 more annually (with no carbon rebate) to subsidize Enbridge after overruled the Ontario Energy Board.

"Eliminating the carbon "tax" benefits the corporations while taxpayers pay the price. The Ford govt is ignoring all the experts and keeping Ontarians hooked on fossil gas even as cheaper, cleaner options become available."

Monday night, the Senate sat for debate on the second reading of Bill C-62, which would "delay" the extension of MAID to patients with severe, irremediable psychiatric illness until after the next election. (Which, cynically, likely means never.) I had a few things to say. You can read (or watch) my speech here: https://sencanada.ca/en/senators/simons-paula/interventions/630725/18#hID #MAID #SenateofCanada #cdnpoli #Canada #Alberta #abpoli #ableg #BillC62 #C62

The Senate doesn't often sit on Monday. But we've recall ourselves to sit this evening, to deal with Bill C-62, the bill delaying adoption of MAID for people suffering from serious mental illness. The government would like us to push the bill right through, before the March sunset clause kicks in. Many in the Senate, though, might prefer to give the bill more thorough study. You can watch the debate live here - after Question Period. https://senparlvu.parl.gc.ca/Harmony #MAID #cdnpoli #SenateofCanada

If you are following the MAID debate, I invite you to read this damning dissenting report from 5 of my Senate colleagues - four of whom happen to be physicians - denouncing the report released this week calling for another delay in extending MAID rights for those with psychiatric conditions. (Note - one of the Senators who signed this dissent is a psychiatrist, another a palliative care specialist.) https://www.parl.ca/documentviewer/en/44-1/AMAD/report-3/page-102 #SenateofCanada #MAID #cdnpoli

There are other families suffering from post- trauma.

There are doctors making assessments who know nothing about the patient except what they tell them. They are making money killing our loved ones. We have no way to intervene. Even their family doctor can be ignored.

This is messed up.

Writing routine, not really, but I have a drawing one : after breakfast, I start my day with about one hour of drawing as warmup before starting my daily job.

Nearly or so! I dream about stuff the night and spend the rest of the day thinking about details and how to draw it!

19: If your SC were a parent, would they be a good one? Why/why not?

One of the story’s darkest secrets: Lady d’Arcy expects her maiden to be dedicated to serve her, so she took extreme measures to prevent them to have babies –in her own twisted way, an hysterectomy wouldn’t scary enough!

That said, Esther being extremely ill, Erie has to take care of her, as she would do of a child.

Page 6 of the 2024 version: Erie helps Esther to dress and to make up. Esther underwears are not totally accurate: corsets during victorian era were underbreast and there were no suspenders. But since my universe is not exactly the real one anyway, I allow myself some anachronisms. Also the first panel is taken from a Titanic scene, when Rose is helped by her mother to dress.
