The refuses to search the that contains the remains of two who were left there by a serial killer, citing safety concerns. But in we have successfully searched landfills for human remains in the recent past. These are just a few of those stories:

The government has a duty to search, but they're too and to begin it.

cazabon,

They aren't #comparable.

The #remains of the two Indigenous women are, firstly, not even certain to be in the #landfill; they're merely suspected to be there. Second, if they are there, they've been there quite some time, and are therefore significantly deeper, which does make #excavating much more #dangerous. Third, they don't know with any degree of #certainty which section of the landfill would contain them.

It's dangerous, impractical, and expensive. But a nice story.

splendor_solis,

@cazabon You can take your racism elsewhere. Cops spent 3 months searching a southern Ontario landfill for one old white man. You just don't want Indigenous people being treated with respect.

There is something wrong with a society when the bodies of murder victims are deemed too inconvenient to retrieve. #Racism and #Misogyny, of course, but also because they're #Tightwads.

"...The blockade went up last week after the province refused to fund a search of #PrairieGreen #Landfill north of #Winnipeg for the remains of two #Indigenous women. The city ordered those blocking the roadway to vacate by noon Monday.

@LALegault They'd better hope Clause B doesn't enter the chat.

@LALegault Unfortunately, only relentless pressure and being a massive pain in the arse. Manitoba deserves it, of course.

@ai6yr just so frustrating that the more easily recyclable stuff isn't even getting recycled!

zondance,

@ai6yr This doesn't surprise me, nobody every said recycling was economic, just that we had to do it. I toss more and more things that I know that they will never recycle. Does this make me bad that I am just pre staging the inevitable?

'Today, 3/5s of all #clothing ends up in landfills or incinerators w/in a year of production [=] a truckload of used clothing dumped or burned per second. Most facilities are in South Asia or Africa, where it overloads the recipient nation. A #landfill near Accra, Ghana, is 60% clothes, 65 ft high, & now a notorious symboi of the crisis. Other dumping is in the #AtacamaDesert!

i've made most of my [#clothes since ~2010. PLZ avoid #FastFashion even if you cannot do that]
